Verna V.
Kane
April 7, 1934 – July 16, 2020
Verna V. Kane, age 86, passed away at her home in Kimberly on Thursday, July 16, 2020. She was born in Toledo, Ohio, on April 7, 1934 to the late Elonzo and Jennie (Bennet) Shaner. On December 8, 1967, Verna married Bernard "Bud" Kane, Sr. Her strong work ethic kept her busy in the catering business until she retired 15 years ago and moved to Kimberly to be closer to her son and family.
As a younger woman, Verna took pride in hosting holiday gatherings and cooking her heart out for her family. As the years went on, she didn't do as much cooking, but she showed her love by grabbing cakes, pies, and mini eclairs for the grandkids. And you could always find her passing out candy or snacks to her many friends at Crescentview Apartments.
Shopping was another activity that brought her joy! Whether it was a trip to Kohls or Shopko, Goodwill or a rummage sale, you could always count on Verna to bring home a treasure. Playing bingo or traveling to the local casino was always a win for Verna! Although she never hit the jackpot, being out with friends was the true prize.
If you missed the last episode of The Bachelor, you could just ask Verna. She and a crew of friends were always at her apartment spending time together and watching their favorite shows. To friends and family alike, Verna was an amazing hostess.
Verna is survived by her son: Bernard "Bud" (Kimberlee) Kane Jr., Combined Locks; grandchildren: Matt and Ben Henry, Becky (Keith) Kudelka, Jonathan Vardaman, Nathan, Alex, and Leah Kane; great grandchildren: Hannah and Cameron Kudelka; and sisters: Margie Mangus and Marleen Vardaman. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Verna was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Kane Sr.; daughter, Kathy Vardaman; siblings: Leona and Mary Binegar, Larry and Lester Shaner; and sister-in-law, Florence (Tony) Burns.
No local service will be held. Verna will be laid to rest in Restlawn Memorial Park in Perrysburg, Ohio.
