Thomas Norman Tews
1946 – 2025
Thomas Norman Tews passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer. A devoted husband, father, proud veteran, and cherished friend to many, Tom lived a life defined by love, service, and commitment.
Tom grew up in Appleton, Wisconsin, where he remained throughout most of his life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Handler Tews, with whom he shared more than 56 beautiful years of marriage. Their love story began on Washington Lake in Shawano, where they spent summers boating, waterskiing, and creating memories at the family cabin.
Tom built a career of over 35 years at Kimberly-Clark, where he was respected for his integrity, and work ethic. His career took him from Neenah, Wisconsin, to Fullerton, California, where he relocated with Sally to be closer to their daughter. After a few years in Southern California, they eventually returned to Appleton.
Tom's greatest joy was his daughter, Carney. He also had a special fondness for his "grand-dogs," who brought him endless laughter and love.
Tom proudly served in the U.S. Army and remained a passionate advocate for veterans and their families throughout his life. He dedicated his time and energy to several organizations, including the Laguna Niguel Military Support Committee (LNMSC) and the Wisconsin Veterans Village Association (WisVVA).
For over a decade, Tom spent his time raising vital funds to support safe housing and essential services for veterans. He took great pride in this work and in the deep connections he built with fellow veterans along the way.
He will be remembered for his thoughtful gentle spirit, and willingness to help others. Tom left a lasting impression on everyone he met, and he will be missed dearly.
Per his wishes, there will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom's name to the Veterans Village, a cause close to his heart.
