Thomas S. "Smitty" Smith, Little Chute, age 76, died Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at Little Chute Health Care Services. Thomas was born in North Carolina on October 12, 1945, to the late Roy and Virginia (Pilkington) Smith. On November 27, 1992, Thomas married Luceinne Michaelis in Green Bay. Thomas was a proud Army veteran, serving from 1964 to 1967. He was a former 1 st Air Cavalry Armed Air Assault at U.S. Army Vietnam. After his 2 tours, Thomas spent the rest of his career as a long haul truck driver. He loved NASCAR as well as the Green Bay Packers.
Thomas is survived by his wife of almost 30 years, Lucy; his children: Steven Smith, of Madison; Scott (Lori O'Neal) Smith, of Reedsburg; Kara Smith, of Portland, OR; and Crystal Eilerman, of Colorado; step children: Katherine Hintz, of Oshkosh; Stacy Krug, of Tigerton; Jamie Wiese of Eugene Oregon; Jennifer Herning, of Little Chute; and Sharon Herning, of Plover. He is further survived by his grandchildren: Madison Smith, Jenna Smith, Zachary Crum, Alexander Smith, and Olivia Smith; his step grandchildren: Dakota Herning, Mari Dorn, Logan Dorn, William Saldana, Sasha Saldana, Austin Smith, Tori Smith, and Phoebe Hoskins; step great grandchildren: Roman and Darius Herning; his siblings: Debra Poole, Sandra Wright, and Brenda (Mike) Comer, and his niece, Natasha (Tony) Gilbert all from North Carolina; and cousin, Alisa (Phil ) Loria of New York.
In addition to his parents, Thomas is preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Ray and Agnes Michaelis; and his stepdaughter Mari Herning.
Visitation for Thomas will be held April 1, 2022, at O'CONNELL FUNERAL HOME (1776 E. Main St., Little Chute) beginning at 3:00 p.m. until time of Funeral at 5:00 p.m. with Chaplain Judy Koeune-Brown officiating. Military honors, conducted by the Kaukauna V.F.W. Post 3319 and American Legion Post 40, will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial is being established.
