Obituary

Tami Sue (Stiebs) Burton, age 60, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at her home in Kaukauna. A deeply loved mother, wife, sister, and daughter, Tami touched the lives of everyone who knew her.

Born on September 22, 1965, in Appleton to Mikell and Colleen (Garrow) Stiebs, Tami grew up alongside her two sisters, Julie and Kris. The family first established roots in the Colony Oaks neighborhood of Appleton, where Tami attended Johnston Elementary, before building a new home in Hortonville, where she attended middle and high school. Tami had a special relationship with her paternal grandparents, Carl and Dorothy Stiebs. During her senior year, she lived with them on their farm while attending Manawa High School.

With the unwavering support of her parents, siblings, and friends, Tami began raising a family with Wayne Oenes. Together they raised a son, Alex (born 1987), and a daughter, Courtney (born 1990). While raising her children, Tami pursued her education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1994. She later married Dennis Burton in 2005, welcoming two stepsons, Justin and Aaron.

Tami worked as a Registered Nurse for over 30 years. Her career found its footing in the ER of Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah. From there, she went on to serve her community as the school nurse at Menasha Middle School and as a public health nurse for the Menasha Health Department. Her career later expanded into new areas, including managing a sales team at Genex, serving as the occupational health nurse at Green Bay Packaging, and working as a case manager for Humana and Paradigm.

Tami will be remembered for her humble intelligence, quiet strength, easy sense of humor, and steady determination. She found peace in long walks with an audiobook, bike rides, and time spent outdoors. She was beautiful, took pride in her sense of fashion, and cared deeply for others, often putting their needs before her own.

Her children will remember their mother for the endless encouragement she gave them. She worked multiple jobs throughout their childhood to ensure they had every opportunity possible, yet she never missed a swim meet, soccer game, performance, or milestone. Her dedication and sacrifice shaped their lives in enduring ways.

Tami's selflessness was most evident in the care she gave her parents during their illnesses. When her father's health declined, she opened her home to him. When her mother was diagnosed with ALS, Tami moved in as her live-in caregiver, offering comfort and unwavering devotion until the end. She always sought purpose, and found it—time and again—in caring for the people she loved.

Tami is survived by her husband, Dennis Burton, Kaukauna; her daughter, Courtney Oenes, New Orleans, LA; her son, Alexander Oenes, Minneapolis, MN; her stepsons, Justin Burton, Madison, WI, and Aaron Burton, Kaukauna, WI; her sisters, Julianna (Terry) Otremba, Edina, MN and their daughter Addison, and Kristina (Trent) Munyer, Coeur d'Alene, ID and their daughters Ava and Zara; her stepfather, Leroy Van Cuick, Wautoma, WI; and her dear friends Sandee Feller, Roxanne Clemens, Sandra Kramer, and Julie Ziebell-Augsburger. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Tami was preceded in death by her father, Mikell Stiebs; her mother, Colleen Van Cuick; her paternal grandparents, Carl and Dorothy (Poehlman) Stiebs; her maternal grandparents, Gene and Ruth (Sypes) Garrow; and her aunts, Kathleen Drews and Nancy Hagen.

Visitation for Tami will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at O'CONNELL FUNERAL HOME (1776 E. Main Street, Little Chute), from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, Tami would have appreciated an unsolicited act of kindness—holding a door, lending a hand, or simply checking in on someone who might need it.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Burton family, with deep gratitude to Dar for the guidance and strength provided during this time.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
