July 12, 1944 – July 7, 2025
Melvin (Sonny) Lawver, passed away in Green Bay on Monday, July 7th, 2025. Sonny was born July 12th, 1944, to his loving parents Marion Marvin and Bernice Vivian (Hovland) Lawver. On July 19th, 1997, Sonny married the love of his life Shelly J. Vanden Bloomer. He loved her so much and would do anything for her. Sonny loved to go fishing, bingo, cookouts, and would even go camping with his wife Shelly and his nieces Michelle and Jeanette and their families. Sonny loved his family dearly. Sonny worked at Walmart in Darboy for 20 plus years. He received a plaque from Walmart on his 20th anniversary. Sonny was so proud. Sonny was always there to lend a helping hand. When riding in the car with Sonny was always a treat, he would always sing his own songs in the back seat. He loved doing crafts and making birdhouses out of juice containers, each one was different and unique as he was. He also enjoyed making people laugh and smile, but he especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by many.
Sonny is survived by his 2 dogs, Max and Charlie; his son, Keith (Deb) Urban; daughter, Theresa Lawver; grandchildren: Cassandra, Wiley, and Nathan; one great grandchild; siblings: Mavis (John) Schutte and Jolene (Lawver); many nieces and nephews and other relatives, and friends. He is further survived by Shelly's siblings: Mary Vanevenhoven, Tom Vanden Bloomer, Sandy Bartelt (Glenn), Terry (Sheila) Vanden Bloomer, Gary Vanden Bloomer, Mike (Linda) Vanden Bloomer, Albert (Michelle) Vanden Bloomer, Lori Vanden Bloomer, and Merlin (Linda) Vanden Bloomer; and their children.
In addition to his wife Shelly (Vanden Bloomer) and his parents Marion Marvin and Bernice Vivan (Hovland) Lawver, Sonny was preceded in death by a daughter Regina Lawver; his siblings: Dawn (Lawver) Wichman and Mary Lou (Lawver) Lenox; three brothers-in-law: Allen Wichman, Roy Lenox and Stephen Childers; and other family members. Sonny was also preceded in death by Shelly's parents Kirby and Margaret (Surprise) Vanden Bloomer; and brothers-in-law: Tim, Gordon, and Melvin Vanden Bloomer, Al Vanevenhoven, and Bill Revoir.
The family of Sonny wants to give an extra thanks to his sister-in-law, Mary (Vanden Bloomer) Vanevenhoven for helping Sonny.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 26th, 2025, at O'CONNELL FUNERAL HOME (1776 E. Main Street, Little Chute) beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of Funeral at 11:00 a.m. with Deacon Steve Vande Hey officiating.
