Shirley E. Kurath, of Appleton, age 93, died Monday, November 15, 2021. She was born in Emerald, Wisconsin, to the late Henry and Florence (Timm) Kuhn, on July 10, 1928. Shirley married Sheldon Kurath on June 19, 1954, in Glenwood City, Wisconsin. Shirley attended the Swedish Hospital for nurse training and the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh, graduating in 1973, with a bachelor's degree in medical technology. Upon her graduation from Oshkosh, Shirley worked as a medical technologist for St. Elizabeth Hospital until her retirement in 1993. Outside of work, Shirley enjoyed cooking, sewing, crafts, and in her later years took up genealogy.

Shirley is survived by her three children: Dean (Karen) of Winthrop, WA; David (Amy) of Mounds View, MN; and Jane of Appleton. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her husband of almost 62 years, Sheldon; her sister, Jeannie (Gerald) Ryan; and her sister-in-law, Nancy (James) Whalen.

A private graveside service will be held in Glenwood City on December 6, 2021.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Shirley's honor.
