Sheldon F. Kurath, Appleton, age 88, died Thursday, June 16, 2016. He was born in Moscow, Idaho on March 29, 1928 to the late Ernst and Hildegard (Reichardt) Kurath. Sheldon married Shirley Kuhn on June 19, 1954 in Glenwood City, WI. Following his graduation from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, Sheldon went on to be a chemistry professor. He retired from the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh in 1993. Sheldon was a member of the American Chemical Society, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Technical Association for Pulp and Paper Industry. His hobbies included tracking the weather and watching the Packers.
Sheldon is survived by his wife of almost 62 years, Shirley; and children: Dean (Karen) of Winthrop, WA; David (fiancée Amy Hallanger) of Mounds View, MN; and Jane of Appleton. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Sheldon was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy (James) Whalen; and sister-in-law, Jeannie (Gerald) Ryan.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 20, 2016 at O'CONNELL FUNERAL HOME (1776 E. Main St. Little Chute) from 4:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Sheldon will be buried in the Glenwood City Cemetery on Tuesday, June 21, 2016. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
