Carney
July 2, 1948 – October 9, 2024
Sharon Ann "Sherry" Carney, aged 76, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2024, at Froedtert Hospital, in Milwaukee. She was born on July 2, 1948 in Appleton, WI to the late Louis and Grace (Van Gompel) Weiland. Sherry married the love of her life, Patrick ("Pat") Carney at Holy Cross Parish on July 27, 1968. Sherry worked for many years in a variety of roles at Unison Credit Union, retiring in 2007 as a Vice President. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who touched the lives of many with her kindness, generosity, and incredible sense of humor.
Throughout her life, Sherry had a passion for exploration and learning. She loved traveling with friends and family and creating memories that will last forever. Sherry also loved to read, and she found joy in completing puzzles—whether it was crosswords or jigsaws.
Most of all, Sherry cherished time spent with her family. Her greatest pride was her children and grandchildren, whom she adored with all her heart. Sherry was also incredibly creative, creating beautiful scrapbooks for her grandchildren and wrapping gifts with a unique flair. Holidays and family gatherings were her favorite occasions; she made everyone feel loved, celebrated, and truly at home.
Sherry is survived by her husband of 56 years, Pat: children: Kelly (Tim) Schumacher of Hollandtown and Wendy (Rob) Dent of Holladay, UT; grandchildren Sam (Stephanie) Schumacher and Lexi (fiancé Sam Johnson) Schumacher; siblings Jim (Marge) Weiland, Dorothy Weiland, Cindy Pilcher, Gary (Donna) Weiland, and Amy (Mark) Simon; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Donna Matenaer, Tom (Carol) Carney, Mike (Tammy) Carney and Jo Anne (Jerry) Kieffer. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Sherry was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Willard "Bill" and Lorraine Carney, and brothers-in-law Dan Carney, Glenn Muenster, and Joe Matenaer.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (411 Vandenbroek Street, Little Chute) beginning at 9:00am until 10:45am. Her funeral mass will follow at 11:00am with the Rev. Ronald Belitz officiating. Committal will be at St. John Cemetery.
Her family and friends will always remember her as a gentle, compassionate soul with an infectious love for life. She leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories, shared laughter, and a reminder to embrace the world with open arms, just as she did.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being set up in her name. Contributions will be donated to two of her favorite charities; St Jude's Childrens Hospital and The American Red Cross.
