Obituary

Ruth D. Coenen, Kaukauna, age 90, died at her home, with her family at her side, on Tuesday, January 25, 2022.  She was born in Kaukauna on January 11, 1932, to the late John and Ella (Danen) Van De Loo.  Ruth married Ralph (Tuffy) Coenen at St. Mary Parish in Kaukauna on October 27, 1953.  He preceded her in death on July 11, 1985.

Ruth was an active member of St. Aloysius Parish in Kaukauna where she served as Bingo chairman, prepared funeral dinners, was a communion distributor, and sang with the funeral choir.  She also volunteered in the parish office and in the Scrip program.  At school, she helped with the hot lunch program and on the playground.  Ruth was the past recording secretary for the Kaukauna High School Alumni (20 years) and was a member of the Kaukauna Community Health Association (25 years).  She also volunteered with the Kaukauna School System's STEP Program.  Her hobbies included lap swimming, golfing, and playing bridge, dominoes and other games.

She recently celebrated her 90 th birthday with family at Van Abel's and felt blessed to have received over 150 greeting cards.

Ruth is survived by her daughters:  Barbara (Robert) Hintz, Kaukauna; Susan (Gary) Smarzinski, Kaukauna; Patricia (John) Meulemans, Kaukauna; Karen Block, Kaukauna; Jean (Rick) Groleau, Greenville; and Ann (Ken) Winius, Bristol; grandchildren:  Brian (Amy) Hintz, Michelle (Sam) Campeau, Curt Meulemans, Becky (Andrew) Post,  Justin (Kristina) Groleau, Andrew (fiancée Victoria Chan) Groleau, Jill (Matthew) Stalker, and James Block; great grandchildren:  Liam, Abel, Kaitlyn, Olivia, Nora, Kamara, Eamillia, Taylor, and Colton; and sisters-in-law:  Mary Van De Loo, Dorothy Schmidt, and Judy Coenen.  She is further survived by friends from the "Culture Corner", nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband Ralph, Ruth was preceded in death by her son-in-law:  Jim Block; grandchildren:  Craig Meulemans, Chad Hintz, and Stephen Groleau; father and mother-in-law, Peter and Lillian Coenen; siblings:  Anna Marie (Robert) Klister, Leo (Helen) Van De Loo, Mary Joan (Cornelius) Hatchell, Rosalie Landgraf, and James Van De Loo; and brothers and sisters-in-law:  Rose (Hank) Kuchelmeister, Joan (Ron) Diedrick, Alphonse Schmidt, and John "Jack" Coenen.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 28, 2022 at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH – ST. MARY CHURCH (119 W. 7 th Street, Kaukauna) beginning at 1:00 p.m. until time of Mass at 3:00 p.m.  Committal St. Mary Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
