(Robin) Rob
L. Vandermoss
June 19, 1959 – December 5, 2022
It is with a heavy heart that we announce Rob's courageous fight with cancer came to an end early Monday morning. Robin Lee "Rob" Vandermoss, age 63, died at his home on Monday, December 5, 2022, with his family at his side. He was born to Robert and Gloria (Neville) Vandermoss in Green Bay on June 19, 1959. Rob graduated from Menasha High School in 1978. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Sandy McGinnis on October 14, 1989 at St. Mary Parish in Appleton. They spent the next 33 years loving each other, and together were blessed with their two wonderful children, Taylor and Kylee, and a beautiful granddaughter, Cameron James, who was born in 2021. His dogs: Charlie, Daisy, and Ginnis, as well as his grandpups, Indy, Chance, and Clyde, held a very special place in Rob's heart.
Rob spent many years as a Heavy Equipment Operator at Badger Highways. He had a passion for fixing and restoring vehicles and spent countless hours working in the garage. Above all, Rob had a lifetime passion for racing. Rob started his career racing ATVs and won multiple ice racing and flat track state championships for AMA District 16. He also spent years racing Sport Trucks at Wisconsin International Raceway until he transitioned to his role as crew chief for Taylor and Kylee, as well as mentor who played a pivotal role in supporting many local racers across all divisions.
Rob served as a strong leader in the local racing community. He served in many leadership roles such as: AMA District 16 ATV Referee, President of the Wisconsin Sport Trucks as well as both Vice President and President for the Fox River Racing Club at WIR. In July of 2021, Rob was incredibly honored to be inducted into the Circle of Fame at WIR for his lifetime of achievements and commitments to racing.
Above all, Rob was a man with a big heart and kind soul. He was caring and loyal to the people in his life and could talk anybody's ear off. While he shared many friendships, aging back to his years in school, his world revolved around his family. He loved and cherished his wife and his two beautiful children, of whom he would always go above and beyond for. Even throughout his courageous battle with cancer, he always put his family's needs above his own. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa, son, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed.
Those left to cherish Rob's memory include his wife, Sandy; his children: Taylor (Samantha), and Kylee (Logan Lannet), both of Kaukauna; his granddaughter, Cameron James; and his mother, Gloria. He is further survived by his siblings: Jody (Dan) Kortbein, Pamela (Steve) Winarski, and Jay (Connie) Vandermoss; his father-in-law, James "Jimmy" McGinnis (special friend Mary Hinkens); siblings-in-law: Tim (Barb) McGinnis, and Kathy Heidemann; as well as his many nieces and nephews: Sara Winarski; Michelle (Jason) Kleppen; Leah Winarski (Kevin Kunstman); Conor Winarski (Jacole Pennenberg); Brooke (Nick) Vander Hyden; Derek Vandermoss; Jessica Limpert; Brandy Heidemann; and McKenna Heidemann (Zach Chambers). He is further survived by many other relatives and friends.
Rob was preceded in death by his father, Robert "Tiny" Vandermoss; his mother-in-law, Mary Jane McGinnis; and his brother-in-law, Dave Heidemann.
We find peace in knowing that when Rob crossed this finish line, he earned the most well deserved checkered flag.
