Obituary

After a long and full life, of 91 years, Robert B. Geenen, Sr., "shuffled off" peacefully in his sleep under the care of the loving staff at Country Villa in Little Chute while immersed in the love of his large family.

Bob was born in 1930 in Freedom, WI on the family farm of the late John and Ella Geenen.

Bob wore many hats during his life.  He was a weaver at a felt company, a meter tester at Kaukauna Electric & Water, a staunch union man from Local 2150 of the IBEW, a decent golfer, a button accordion master, and a proud Irishman. But more than anything else, he was father to his six children, and a husband to Sally, the love of his life.  While Bob unequivocally loved his children and their spouses, it was his 23 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren that always put a smile on his face.

One of Bob's joys was taking his boys and nephews on hunting and trout fishing outings. But in truth they learned less about those crafts than they did about where a good burger (but more often than not where the worst burgers he ever had in his life) came from.  The "Club" later learned that it was not really about hunting at all, but about a family bond of close and loyal camaraderie. In addition to the nephews who "hunted" with him, who he viewed as his own kids, Tom and Dick Bauer were viewed by him as brothers.

While his boys were his ready companions, his daughters were his pride and joy. They were his favorites who could do no wrong. But as good as he was to them, they were constantly doting on him. His sons-in-law and daughters-in-law held a special place in his heart as well.

Sally, who stole his heart and bore his six children passed away in 1994. He was also preceded in death by his companions Cecilia Bruss and later Jan Eckberg.

In addition he was preceded in death by a grandchild Alex; his daughter-in-law Lori Geenen; brothers: John, Frank and Don; and sisters: Coletta (Rollie) Bauer , Mary (Floyd) Griesbach, Theresa (Ernie) Kemps, Bernice (Ronald) Stadler, and Margaret (Louie) Koehler;  as well as his wife's family including Frank (Grace) Femal (in laws); Sally's siblings and spouses: Mary Ellen (Don) Hoh, Kathleen (Clayton) McCabe, Helen (Pat) McCabe, Grace (Victor Groskopf and Bill) Baldwin, Phelan (Laverne) Femal, Clifford (Ethel) Femal, and Harry.

He is survived by daughters: Diane (Glenn) Downing; their children Corey, Kristy, Samantha, Josh, Aubrey and Jack; Emily (Brett) Stousland, their children Ben and Sophia; his sons: Robb (Vicki), their children Stephanie Harvey, Kevin, Mark, Vincent; Jon (Sheri) their children Sara, Kelly Carrie; Dan (Kathy) their children Katie Schreiber, Ellie Newhouse, Tony; and Tim (Tammy) and their family Erin, Shannon, Connor, Hunter Ziehms, and Emily Williams; as well as his sister-in-law Carol (Don) Geenen, and scores of great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Bob would be the first to say he had a great and extraordinary life.

Special thanks to the Compassus Hospice team who helped make the last six months of his earthly journey as pleasant as possible.
