Robert J. Gay, Appleton, age 81, died at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Appleton, on May 21, 2018. He was born in Columbus, WI on July 13, 1936 to the late David and Virginia (McGovern) Gay. Robert married Jeanette Madsen on October 26, 1957, at St. Jerome's Catholic Church in Columbus, WI. He worked at Wisconsin Gas Company until his retirement. He then worked part-time at Captains Cove Resort. Robert was a member of Badger Power, Clintonville Lions Club and the Clintonville Common Council. He was an active member of St. Rose Parish, volunteered with Meals on Wheels, and was a former mayor of Clintonville.

Robert is survived by his wife, Jeanette; children: Julie (William Domina) Gay of Waukesha; Mark Gay of Appleton; Jill (Colny) Gretzinger of Appleton; Joni (Jim) Hoppe of Appleton; Jenifer (Doug) Fehrman of Sheboygan; and Douglas Gay of Gresham; grandchildren: Katherine (Blair), Joseph, Laura, Craig (Katie), Sean, Kelly, Alex, Abby, Benjamin, Erin and Mason; and siblings: Joe Gay and Kathleen Lawrence. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by Jeanette's parents, Axel and Helen Madsen; grandson, Chancy Gay; and siblings: Bernard Gay and Grace Sponem.

Visitation will be held Saturday May 26, 2018 at ST. ROSE PARISH, Clintonville, WI from 9:30 until time of Mass at 11:00. Fr. Jack Mullarkey will officiate. Committal St. Rose Cemetery.
