Obituary

After a long and terrific life, Richard Borman passed away in his home, surrounded by family, on September 2nd, 2012. He was 83 (or "39 forever," if you asked him).

Richard was born on June 16th, 1929 to Roland and Marie Borman in Two Rivers, WI. He moved to Green Bay while in high school and was the valedictorian of his graduating class. After a short stint at St. Norbert College, Richard went to school in Toledo to become a butcher.

He met Joan Lytie while working at Palace Food Market, his family's grocery store. Joan thought Richard was the cutest boy there and loitered frequently to catch his eye. They were married at St. Patrick's Church in Green Bay, WI on September 29th, 1951 and, almost 61 years later, she still thinks he's the cutest boy around.

A lifelong Wisconsinite, Richard spent most of his career working for the state as an Investigator for the Wage and Hour / Equal Rights departments. He moved his family to Chippewa Falls to follow his job in 1967, where he fixed up a home that has since become a family institution. A devoted Catholic and long-time member of St. Charles Parish, Richard's belief in a higher power was unshakeable. He was a fan of chips, cheese curds, and a good martini. Richard enjoyed grilling, getting a good deal at Gordy's, following his grandchildren's sporting / theatrical exploits, and doting on his wife.

A man who never just loved you but instead "loved you bunches," Richard was the glue that held a large family together. He is survived by his wife, Joan; and their eight children: Richard Borman (Kathy O'Connor), Robert Borman, Randy (Sue) Borman, Russ (Cheri) Borman, Kathy Borman (Randy Nyhus), Mary (Pat) O'Connell, Bill (Deb) Borman, and Joe (Meg) Borman. Twenty grandchildren followed to keep him on his toes: Ashley, Kate and RJ Borman, Tara, Taylor and Michael Borman, Marisa (Dan) Daum, John (Margo) Borman, Veronica (Chris) Van Horn, Chris and Laura Borman, Brady and Karley Nyhus, Kaci and Kellen (Samantha) O'Connell, Drew and Grace Borman, and Kennedy, Max and Clare Borman. Richard even got to meet seven great-grandchildren: Chasen and Avery Borman, Lily, Emma, and Ava Van Horn, Isaac Reynolds, and Reilly O'Connell.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Marie Borman, his sister, Sister Rolanda Borman, and his brother, James Borman.

At the end of his life, Richard received exceptional care from St. Joseph's Hospice, and the family wants to express their most heartfelt gratitude for that experience. Beth, Cindi, Sara, Jennifer and Donna were especially wonderful, and a special thanks goes out to them. A special thanks also goes out to Father Ed and Father Letona, who provided the family with much comfort throughout this process.

Visitation will be held Saturday September 8th, 2012 at ST. CHARLES BORROMEO CHURCH (810 Pearl St. Chippewa Falls) beginning at 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 12 Noon. The Rev. Ed Shuttleworth will officiate. Interment Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial funds for St. Charles Parish and the Sinsinawa Dominicans are being established in Richard's memory.

A man who encouraged you to "try to be good – not real good," Richard was always quick to share a wink, a wise word, and a bit of mischief. His zest for life was contagious, and he will be sorely missed, lovingly celebrated, and carried on in the hearts of many.
