Kerrigan, Sr.

Richard J. Kerrigan, Sr., Appleton, age 90, died Wednesday, August 14, 2024. He was born in Appleton on February 7, 1934, the son of the late George G. and Lillian (Holtz) Kerrigan. He attended St. Therese in Appleton, St. Joe's in Green Bay and graduated from St. John High School in Little Chute. Dick enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served four years from 1952-56. He was stationed at the Naval Torpedo Station, Keyport, WA, and aboard the aircraft carrier USS Shangri-La CVA-38. Dick also served in the National Guard from 1957-59 and 1976-78.
He married Arlene T. Eslinger on August 24, 1957. She preceded him in death November 6, 2010.
He worked at the Standard Oil Bulk Plant and Sinclair Refining Co. Bulk Plants before joining Appleton Papers, Inc. for 28 years. Dick retired on April 1, 1996.
Dick was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Appleton for over 30 years. He was also a member of the following organizations: UPIU Local 469 (lifetime member), Grand Chute V.F.W. Post 8642 (charter member and commander), Appleton American Legion Post 38, Fox Valley Area Labor Council, Retirees Club, and the Fox Valley Vets Council.
He enjoyed all sports, especially football, Packers, and NCAA basketball and football. Dick also enjoyed card games, especially poker and cribbage. He played partners with Harry Eslinger in league cribbage at Brandy's Bar for years.
Dick is survived by his children: Dan (June) Kerrigan of Neenah; Dave (Tina) Kerrigan of Little Chute; Steven Kerrigan of Appleton; and Richard Jr. (Linda Schwister) Kerrigan of Appleton; grandchildren: Lori Kerrigan, Greg (Stephanie) Kerrigan, Sarah (David) James, Stephanie (Dan) Fish, Michael Kerrigan, and Jake Kain; great grandchildren: Brooke Kerrigan, Andrew Campbell, Isaiah Smith, Lincoln Kerrigan, and Olivia Grace Fish; and great great grandson, Anthony Campbell; siblings: Jim (Suzette) Kerrigan and Judy (John) Van den Bosch; and significant other, Mary Beth Chern. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to his parents, and wife Arlene, Dick was preceded in death by his grandson, Gabriel; and brother, George (Dody) Kerrigan.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at SACRED HEART PARISH (222 E. Fremont Street, Appleton) beginning at 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. His Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. John Kleinschmidt officiating. Military honors will immediately follow. Committal Highland Memorial Park.
