Schmalz
June 2, 1928 – December 7, 2024
Peter V. Schmalz, previously from Darboy, age 96, passed away peacefully at Cherry Meadows Hospice, with his family at his side, on Saturday, December 7, 2024. He was born in Appleton on June 2, 1928 to the late Alex and Nellie (Croell) Schmalz. Peter married Genevieve Van Gompel on September 10, 1949 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church. Peter proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258. Prior to his retirement from Outlook Graphics, he was employed at George Banta Printing for 31 years.
He enjoyed tinkering with small engines, and going for car rides, especially to the lake. In his younger years, Peter also enjoyed riding his bike, going ice fishing and being a volunteer fireman. He treasured time spent with his family and appreciated a good Old Fashioned.
Peter is survived by his children: Leon, Tallahassee, FL; Rebecca (Daniel) Fernandez, Suffolk, VA; Steven (Sheryl), Neenah; Cynthia (Barry) Phillips, Neenah; and Ramona (John) Dahlke, Tallahassee, FL, grandchildren: Andrea (Jake) Perry, Shane Fernandez, and Alex (Krystal Titus) Fernandez, Josh (Jenny) Schmalz, Jennifer (Ben) Busch, Kimberly (Brian) Murray, Amber (Shaun) Casper, Ariel (Justin) Catlin, Lydia (Beau) Villeneuve, Johnathan (Jolene) Schmalz, Eric Phillips, Kristine (Steven) Thomson, Nicole (Luke) Scoles, Cassandra (Dave) Hale, Danielle (Matt) Pena, Adam (Pilar) Dahlke, and John M. Dahlke; 36 great grandchildren; a great great grandson; and sisters-in-law: Lynda (Norb) Weyers and Catherine Van Gompel. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Peter was preceded in death by his wife Genevieve; daughter-in-law, Vickie; brothers: Kenneth (Betty), Gerald (Marie), and Robert (Liz) Schmalz; sisters: Bonnie (Mal) Bodway and Helen (Frank) Krasniewski; sisters-in-law: Josie (Herb) Lom and Millie (Bob) Walker; and brothers-in-law: Richard (Audrey), Marcellus (June, Mary), Regina, James, and Henry Van Gompel.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 13, 2024 at ST. PAUL PARISH (410 Wallace Street, Combined Locks) from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. His Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Stegmann officiating. Military honors, conducted by the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258, will immediately follow. Committal Holy Angels Cemetery.
