Olive (Ollie) Derus, Appleton, age 88, passed away peacefully at home with her devoted husband Gerald (Jerry) by her side on Thursday, May 12, 2022. She was born in Appleton on July 13, 1933 to the late Peter C. and Anna (Molitor) VandenHeuvel.
After graduating from St. John High School in Little Chute, Ollie worked as a secretary for a law firm, the US Civil Service while her husband was stationed in the Army in Maryland, and for Kimberly Clark in Neenah before becoming a full-time homemaker. Jerry and Ollie were wed on April 28, 1956.
Ollie never had a bad word to say about anyone. She enjoyed many activities with Jerry, the love of her life. They sailed Lake Winnebago, Green Bay, Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, and the North Channel, Ontario Canada. Throughout the years they were very avid bikers and walkers.
Ollie is survived by her nieces Rogene (Gerald, deceased) Verhagen and Carole (Keith Nerenhausen) Koehn, nephews Steven (Cindy) Koehn and Mark (Dan) Koehn, her husband's nieces and nephews, and many grand-nieces and –nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-laws Frank and Leona Derus, brothers-in-law Gene and Ronald Derus, and Roger Koehn. Her sister, Florence Koehn, passed away six days after Ollie on May 18, 2022.
In accordance with her wishes, no funeral will be held. If you wish, please make a donation in her honor to the Salvation Army or St Thomas Moore Catholic Church.
