Norman E. Whitney, Combined Locks, age 89, died Saturday, July 1, 2017 at St. Mary's Care Center in Madison. He was born in Spring Brook, WI on July 11, 1927 to the late Roy and Clarice (Coleman) Whitney. Norman served his country in World War II and Korea in the U.S. Army and retired after 20 years of service. He retired from the Army Reserve as a Captain. While stationed in Germany, he found his bride, Freya Zottmann. The two married on April 18, 1952. After his retirement from the Army, he worked at Thilmany Pulp and Paper for an additional 20 years until 1993.
Norman is survived by his wife of 65 years, Freya; children: Karen (Gregory) Thrune of Winona, MN; Anette (Jim) Trecker of Montgomery, MN; and Scot (fiancée Laurie Goscha) of Madison; grandchildren: Mathew (Christine), Whitney (Ross),Tyler, Samantha, Christopher and Nicholas; great granddaughter: Addison; sisters and brothers-in-law: Frances Whitney; Manfred (Gabi) Zottmann, Gisela Zottmann and Erwin Weisbeck.
In addition to his parents, Norman was preceded in death by his brothers: Wayne and Frank Whitney; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Dieter Zottmann, Helga Weisbeck and Boto (Marga) Zottmann.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at O'CONNELL FUNERAL HOME (1776 E. Main St. Little Chute) beginning at 11:00 until the time of Funeral at 1:00 p.m. Military rites, conducted by the Kaukauna V.F.W. 3319 and the American Legion Post 41, will immediately follow. Committal will follow at Fort Snelling, Minnesota.O'Connell Funeral Home
