Nicholas W. Leick, Kaukauna, age 88, died Tuesday August 10, 2010. He was born in Kaukauna on July 9, 1922 to the late Emil and Helena (Eickenbusch) Leick. Nicholas married Fabiola (Phoebe) DeKeuster on September 7, 1957 at Holy Cross Church.
An Army veteran, he proudly served in the 161 4th Engineer WS Company and fought in the European Theatre, the Battle of the Bulge and at Normandy. While there, Nicholas earned many awards, including the EAME Theatre Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. He was the top Rifleman/sharpshooter in his battalion. Nicholas enjoyed playing the violin, traditional blue grass music and gambling with his sisters and friends. He had a strong passion for gardening.
Nicholas is survived by his children: Nick (Angel) Leick Sr., Hortonville; and Mary (Leo) La Barge, Combined Locks; grandchildren: Shannon Willard, Erin (Jon) Stuyvenberg, Nicholas Leick Jr. and Autumn Leick; great grandchildren: Elaina and Brenna Willard, Madysen and Trevor Stuyvenberg; sisters: Marie Hartjes, Dolores Schuh, Helen Sachs and Betty Vander Wyst; sister-in-law Hildegarde Leick; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife and parents; he was preceded in death by his siblings: Elmer (Ann) and Eldor Leick and Florence (Julius) Hartjes; brothers-in-law: Butter Vander Wyst, Ed Hartjes, Hilton Schuh and Robert Sachs; and nephews Carl Schuh and Barry Sachs.
Visitation will be held Friday August 13, 2010 beginning at 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 11:30 a.m. at HOLY CROSS PARISH (309 Desnoyer St. Kaukauna) with Rev. Thomas Pomeroy officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Kaukauna VFW Post 3319 at Holy Cross Cemetery immediately following Mass.
