Obituary

Monroe A. Schneider, Kaukauna, age 97, died Friday, June 17, 2016 at the St. Paul Home with his family by his side. He was born in Lark, WI to the late Minard and Estelle (Nohr) Schneider. He proudly served in the National Guard 32nd Red Arrow Division from 1937-1945. Monroe married Claire Hilgenberg on November 29, 1947 in Kaukauna. In his younger years, he helped with the family chicken hatchery. He then was self-employed, installing carpet for many years. Monroe enjoyed wood carving and painting and shared his works of art with members of his family. He helped build 4 family homes, including the one he and Claire currently live in. Monroe loved to spend time with his family, especially playing Scat with his grandkids. He was an avid golfer and was a longtime member of the Fox Valley Golf Club.

Monroe is survived by his wife of 68 years, Claire; children: Lynn (Tom) Rohlf of Grand Haven, MI; Nan (Dick) Vanderloop of Kaukauna; Mark (Ev) Schneider of Little Chute; Barry (Tracy) Schneider of Venice, FL; and Kris Schneider of Kaukauna; grandchildren: Jason (Guin Johnson) Rohlf, Jenny (Jon) Kerkman, Sybil (Matt) Ashworth, Holly Borchert, Chad (Kelly) Vanderloop, Anissa (Mike) Emery, Alison (Jeremy Rechner) Schneider and Molly Schneider; 13 great grandchildren: Cyanne, Audrey, Evan, Caleb, Iris, Eloise, Hanna, Satia,Sylvia, Amelia, Ben, Madison and Olivia; sisters-in-law: Sally Tarala and Ellie Doering; and brothers-in-law: Carl (Gina) Hilgenberg and Duane Heindel. He is also survived by his nephew, Jim (Lydia) Freeman; niece Mary Ann Mahnke and other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Monroe was preceded in death by his siblings: Mark (Pat) Schneider, June (Herman) Freeman and Glen Doering; and sister-in-law Ann Heindel.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at O'CONNELL FUNERAL HOME (1776 E. Main St. Little Chute) beginning at 3:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 5:00 p.m. The Rev. Lucretia Fehrman will officiate. Military rites will follow. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
