Obituary

Michael L. Janssen, Kaukauna, age 60, died Sunday September 9, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. Mike was born in Appleton on August 5, 1952 to Roman G. and Bernice F. (Mancl) Janssen. He married Alice M. Brooks on August 31, 1973 at St. Mary's Parish in Menasha. Mike was an Army veteran and a member of the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258, Little Chute. Athletics were a large part of his life. He played baseball for many years and had a faithful exercise regimen, rarely missing a day. Mike also was an avid follower of the Packers, Brewers and Badgers. As a Janssen, music also played an immense role in his life. He and his brothers sang together often. Mike was a member of Holy Cross Parish where he sang with the choir. He recently retired from Appleton Coated after 40 years of service. Mike cherished his family and treasured each of his 13 grandchildren.

Mike is survived by his wife of 39 years, Alice; children: Adam G. (Sarah) of Kaukauna; Amy M. (partner Ramiro Garcia) of Kaukauna; and Ann T. (Kevin) Schmid of Neenah; grandchildren: Dustin and Tamara Van Asten, Logan and Lauren Janssen, Cole and Haley Beach, Cody, Justin, Kylie, Alexy, Lola, Isabell and Wyatt Schmid; mother Bernice Janssen of Little Chute; brothers and sisters: Greg (Nancy), Geri (Joan), Doug (Deb), Mary (Dave) Vandehey, Jim (Nancy), Bill, Peg (Al) Van Asten, Marty (Harriet), Laurie Verhagen, Kris (Bruce) Evers and Ellen (Steve) Reynebeau; father-in-law: Robert Brooks; and sister and brother-in-law: Joan (Mark) Christman and Tom (Jayme) Brooks. He is further survived by 50 nieces and nephew, as well as other relatives and many friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his father Roman Janssen; mother-in-law Luella (Moehn) Brooks; brother-in-law Walt Audette; niece Rebecca M. Janssen; and nephew Joseph R.M. Christman.

Visitation will be held Thursday September 13, 2012 at HOLY CROSS PARISH (309 Desnoyer St. Kaukauna) beginning at 1:00 p.m. until Mass at 4:00 p.m. The Rev. John Christman (Mike's nephew) will officiate. Military rites conducted by the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258 will immediately follow. Committal Holy Cross Cemetery.
