THE CHARIOT HAS ARRIVED!
Melvin D. Frahm, 86, passed into eternal life early Friday morning on July 22, 2022 from an unexpected brain hemorrhage. He was surrounded by his wife Joan and other family members.
Melvin will be forever missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Joan Karen (Pirner); his three children: Karla (Timothy Biggs), Stephen (Annette), and Timothy (Christine); six grandchildren: Brianna and Dylan, Zoe and Ryan, Drake and Lex; and one great-grandson: Davian.
Melvin was born on June 8, 1936 in Mitchell, SD, the son of Ehrhart and Bertha (Hunsche) Frahm. He was baptized at Salem Lutheran in Mt. Vernon, SD. He attended schools in Davenport, IA after moving there in 1941. In 1952 he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith (ALC).
Attending school on a basketball scholarship, Melvin received his BA from Wartburg College in 1958 and attended Wartburg Seminary for one year before working for the Muscatine Children's Home where he met Joan. After marrying Joan in 1961, Melvin was drafted into the U.S. Army and served as a chaplain's assistant. He returned to Wartburg Seminary and received his Masters of Divinity in 1966, after his internship in Tinley Park, IL.
He was first called to serve as pastor at Zion Lutheran, Clinton, IA, followed by assistant pastor at St. James Lutheran, Mason City, IA, pastor at Messiah Lutheran, Charles City, IA and pastor at St. Paul Lutheran, Mayville, WI. He then simultaneously ministered three Lutheran Parishes including First Lutheran, Britton, SD, Pleasant Valley Lutheran, rural Britton, SD and Lake City Lutheran, Lake City, SD.
After retiring, Melvin and Joan moved to Aberdeen, SD for ten years and then to the Fox Valley (Neenah and Appleton), WI. Melvin and Joan traveled many times to countries throughout Europe, Australia and New Zealand visiting friends and family. Over the years, they hosted foreign exchange students in their home. Melvin enjoyed many sports and couching and with his social personality, was very involved in the community.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Wayne, Donald, Maurice and Wilbur, and one sister: Geraldine (Schrader).
A short service, committal and light lunch social will be held on:
