Obituary

Matthew E. (Matt) Daul, Jr., age 90, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Friday, December 22, 2023.  The son of Matthew and Marie (Carney) Daul was born on September 2, 1933. Matt was the youngest of five children, and grew up on the family farm in Freedom. He graduated from Freedom High School and then joined the US Army where he served five years and three additional years in the Army Reserves. Matt worked at the Geenen General Store as a truck driver and then as a salesman for Geenen Explosives aka ICI Explosives his entire carrier. In retirement he worked as a courtesy driver for Bergstrom Automotive.

He married the love of his life Mary Ann Verhoeven on January 7, 1960 at Saint John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Little Chute. They shared 63 loving years of marriage before her passing on March 30, 2023.  They settled and raised their two boys in Freedom. He enjoyed coaching basketball, watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports.  Matt loved spending time at his family cottage on Legend Lake and playing a good game of cards.

He is survived by his children, Bruce (Rose) Daul and Brian (Sandy) Daul; grandchildren: Darin, Dustin (Jenny), Shauna (Matt) Locasha, and Travis Daul; great grandchildren:  Hadley and Aubri Daul, and Harper Locasha; siblings-in-law: Carol &Terry VanBoxtel, Darlene Verhoeven, and Shirley Broeren.

Matt was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 63 years in spring of 2023; his parents, Matthew and Marie; siblings, Lorraine and Jack Calaway, Betty and Norval Smits, Florian "Bud" (Rosie) Daul and Donald Daul; and brothers-in-law, Richard Verhoeven, Vernon Verhoeven.

Visitation for Matt will begin at 3:00 p.m. until time of Funeral at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at O'CONNELL FUNERAL HOME (1776 E. Main Street, Little Chute) with Deacon Gary Vanness officiating. Military Honors, conducted by Kaukauna V.F.W. Post 3319 and American Legion Post 41, will follow. Committal St. Nicholas Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the caregivers and medical staff with St. Croix Hospice and Building 2 at the Country Villa in Freedom for their tender loving care given to Matthew.
