Mary L. Vanevenhoven, Appleton, age 79, passed away at her home, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. She was born in Appleton on February 5, 1947, to the late Robert and Agnes (Pichette) Helser. Mary married Gary Vanevenhoven on September 4, 1965. They enjoyed 50 years together, until his death on July 13, 2015.
Mary was a social butterfly, had a great sense of humor, and loved to have fun. She spent many years working as a server, a role that came naturally to her. Her life revolved around serving and helping others, especially her family. Mary was a doting wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family was her world.
Mary was a very stylish and beautiful lady. While not particularly lucky, she enjoyed trips to the casino. Mary also enjoyed playing Skip Bo and Mexican Train Dominoes and watching Sci Fi and horror movies.
Mary and Gary loved Florida and lived as snowbirds for twelve years. She lived for the sun, ocean, and outdoors and always had a tan.
Mary is survived by her children: Dawn (Wayne) Neubert of Darboy and Scott Vanevenhoven of Appleton; daughters-in-law: Diane, Karen, and Susan; grandchildren: Tyler, Brielle, Katlyn, Mariah, Bryce, Tadenn, and Brittany; great grandchildren; siblings: Michael (Janice) Helser, Barbara Helser, and Thomas (Marybeth) Helser; and in-laws: Mary (Rick) Babler, Nancy Vanevenhoven, and Mike Coffey. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to her parents, and husband Gary, Mary was preceded in death by her sons: Brian and Jason Vanevenhoven; brother, Robert (Debra) Helser; in-laws: Bruce Vanevenhoven, Darlene (Tim) Vandehy, and Sandy Coffey; and her precious Princess Miley.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 26, 2026, at O'CONNELL FUNERAL HOME (1776 E. Main Street, Little Chute) from 3:00 p.m. until 5:45 p.m. Her Funeral will follow at 6:00 p.m. with Deacon Dan Koszalinski officiating. Committal St. Mary Cemetery, Appleton. A memorial is being established.
