Mary A. Van Groll, Little Chute, age 80, died Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Appleton. She was born in Kaukauna on July 13, 1944, to the late Peter and Henrietta (Vande Wettering) Huss. Mary was united in marriage to Marvin Van Groll on April 17, 1963, at Holy Cross Parish in Kaukauna. He preceded her in death on March 5, 2011, after 47 years of marriage. Mary enjoyed reading, music, trips to the casino, and collecting porcelain dolls and Precious Moments figurines. She loved to cheer on the Packers. Mary cherished family time, especially at the family cottage at Chute Pond, where there was often a joke being told and laughter carrying on. Mary was often found praying for the people she loved and reading her "Jesus Calling" book. She taught people many things but most importantly she taught them to love Jesus, pray often, and be generous. She was humble and she followed the Lord's example to the best of her ability.
Mary is survived by her children: Dan (Caroll), Little Chute; Dave (Ellen), Kaukauna; Brenda Ziehl, Little Chute; and Brian (Tina), Freedom; grandchildren: Amber Leurquin, Jen Van Groll, Tony (Jessie) Van Groll, Aaron (Aly) Van Groll, Sarah (Deaven) Halbach, Alexis Van Groll, Brianna (Troy) Dollevoet, Brooke (Sam) Burton, Zachary Van Groll, Haley (Tim) Van Veghel and step grandson Nick Otte; great grandchildren: Jeremiah, Jacob, Henry, and Scarlet Leurquin; Grayson and Lainey Halbach; Rosie Van Groll; Addison, Beau, and Wyatt Burton; Sidney Dollevoet; and a baby boy, Van Veghel, on the way; sisters-in-law: Kay and Donna Huss; brothers and sisters-in-law: Rich (Kate) Van Groll, Jerry (Janice) Van Groll, Marge Van Beek, Irene (Tiny) Wagner, Carol Selig, Donny (Beth) Van Groll, and Le Roy Van Groll; godchildren: Bruce Wagner, Randy Van Groll, and B.J. Sanderfoot, and special friends: Mary and Lyle Ellenbecker and John Knaus. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; father and mother-in-law: Henry and Dora (Ver Voort) Van Groll; son-in-law, Keith Ziehl; grandson: Lance Van Groll and step grandson Kyle Otte; great grandson, Nehemiah Van Groll; siblings: Cyril (Marge) Huss, Cletus (Shirley) Huss, Roland Huss, Clayton Huss, Joan (George) Ver Voort, Gary Huss, and Peter Huss; brothers-in-law: Norman Van Beek, Jerry Selig, and Carl Van Groll; nieces and nephews: Dick Huss, Judy Ver Bockel, Diane Dreger, Mark Van Beek, and Andy Van Groll.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 1, 2025, at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (411 Vandenbroek Street, Little Chute) from 1:00 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. Her Funeral Mass will follow at 4:00 p.m. with the Rev. Ronald Belitz officiating.
