The family of Mary Meharg Purcell is saddened to announce that Mary passed away on March 9, 2025, in Appleton, Wisconsin. Mary Margaret was born in Antigo, Wisconsin, to William and Margaret (Duquaine) Meharg on December 20, 1941, the fourth of their six children.
Mary graduated from Antigo High School in 1959. She married Tom Bonnell and two children were born from that union: William Clinton Bonnell and Terri Margaret Bonnell. In 1979, Mary married Kieran (Joe) Purcell and they relocated to Appleton. Mary was a waitress for many years in both Antigo and Appleton and was an active volunteer at Community Clothes Closet in Menasha. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also, she loved to read and was seldom seen without a book in her hands. Mary was skilled at knitting and crocheting.
She is survived by her husband, Kieran, her son, Bill (Jayne) Bonnell, and grandsons Jon (Jas) Bonnell and Alex (Brooke) Bonnell, as well as stepchildren, Gordon Purcell (his son, Jack) and Amanda (John) Lauer. John and Amanda were blessed with four children: Stephanie (David) Dokko; Nicholas (Emily) Lauer; Samantha (Ryan) Seifert; and Elizabeth (Richard) Oviatt. Mary is also survived by nine great-grandchildren (Joseph, Katherine, and Benjamin Dokko; Declan, Evelyn, and Margaret Lauer; Lena and Henry Seifert; and Baby Boy Bonnell (due March 24, 2025), and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Mary is further survived by her sisters, Kathleen Parsons; Phyllis (Harvey) Nelson; Pat (Gary) Doucette; and Ginny Meharg, and sister-in-law, Susan Meharg, as well as brothers-in-law, John (Catherine) Purcell and Francis (Ellen) Purcell, and her sister-in-law, Eileen McIlvenna.
Mary was predeceased by her daughter, Terri; her brother, Michael; her niece, Debby Parsons McCauley; her nephews, Todd Nelson and Jeff Parsons; her stepson, Rodney Purcell, and her step-daughter-in-law, Debra Purcell.
Visitation for Mary will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, 222 E. Fremont St., Appleton, in the church from 9:30-11:00 a.m. The funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been set up in Mary's name at Vida Medical Clinic, 720 W. Association Drive, Appleton, WI 54914.
