Obituary

Mary Jane Hartjes passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, July 9th at the age of 81. She was born June 22, 1930 in Little Chute, WI, daughter of Pete and Ida (Van Schindel) Ver Voort.

She married Robert C. Hartjes on January 15, 1955. She lived in Little Chute most of her life. When she married Dad, she accompanied him to Texas where he was stationed at the Air Force Base. From there, they were stationed in Okinawa, Japan for 4 years where she worked for the Army in their finance department. When they returned they went to New Mexico and retired there and then returned home after 20 years in the Air Force.

Mother was a member of St John's Catholic Church all her life. She attended St John's grade school and high school, graduating in 1948.

She worked for the Outagamie County Abstract office in Appleton, Register of Deeds office for a few years after return and then for Gene Romenesko and Joe Pennings as their bookkeeper for 27 years. Mother was also a bartender for Junior Salm at the Darboy Club and at Toby's Tap for many years. She worked for the St John Parish for 12 years as coordinator of volunteers.

Mother was a great sports fan since grade school following her brother, sons, and then grandchildren never missing a game. She was a great Packer fan holding season tickets for 30 years. She also loved the Milwaukee Braves and Brewers going to many games; including Marquette basketball, Badger football and basketball. She was chosen as Little Chute's #1 fan in 1989 by St John's Athletic Association for attending all games and being there for so many sporting events.

Mom and Dad were members of Fox Valley Golf Club for 20 years with the boys playing with their Dad whenever possible. Mary Jane also golfed in the Ladies League at Mid Vallee Golf Club.

She was involved in a few card clubs, cribbage and bowling league for most of her life.

Mothers' faith was a very important part of her life. Blessed Mother, St Anthony, St Jude and St Christopher.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband Robert; a daughter Rhonda; parents Pete and Ida Ver Voort; sisters Ruby Sanderfoot and Jule(Richard) Wippich; brother-in-law Jim "Cobby" Hartjes; mother and father-in-law Dewey and Vi Hartjes; special aunt and uncle Hazel and Ray Prunty.

She is survived by her children Randy (Lisa), Jane, Skin (fiancé Shelly) and Bruce; grandchildren Jenna (Patrick) Hietpas, Maggie, Whitney (special friend Brandon) and Sam; great grandchild Bryn. Also, brother Ken (Donna) VerVoort; brothers-in-law Richard Sanderfoot, Spec (Bonnie) Hartjes and a sister-in-law and special friend Grace Hartjes. Mary Jane also had many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday July 13, 2011 at VILLAGE LIMITS (1721 E. Main St. Little Chute) from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Thursday July 14, 2011 at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 S. Pine St. Little Chute) from 2:00 p.m. until time of Mass at 5:00 p.m. The Rev. Msgr. James Vanden Hogen will officiate. Committal St. John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.

Mother loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest with no regrets.
