Marvin A. Van Groll, Little Chute, age 68, died at home with his family at his side Saturday March 5, 2011. He was born in Little Chute on October 23, 1942 to the late Henry and Dora (Ver Voort) Van Groll. Marvin married Mary Huss on April 17, 1963 at Holy Cross Parish in Kaukauna. He was a farmer for many years. He traveled the state, competing in tractor pulls with his tractor that was known as Black Bear. He was a volunteer fireman for the Town of VandenBroek for 19 years. Marvin also owned Van's Septic Service, retiring in 2007. Following his retirement, Marv continued to farm, working land and planting crops. That was his true passion in life. He also loved to spend time at the family cottage at Chute Pond, where he had many "No-fish" fishing trips and played cards.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary; children: Dan (Caroll), Little Chute; Dave (Ellen), Kaukauna; Brenda (Keith) Ziehl, Kaukauna; and Brian (Tina), Freedom; grandchildren: Amber (Michael) Leurquin, Jennie, Tony, Aaron, Sarah, Lance, Alexis, Brianna, Brooke, Zachary and Haley Van Groll, Nick and Kyle (fiancé Ashley Ducheny) Otte; great grandchildren: Jeremiah, Jacob and Lila (on the way); brothers and sisters: Rich (Kate), Jerry (Janice), Marge (Norman) Van Beek, Irene (Clarence "Tiny") Wagner, Carol (Jerry) Selig, Donny (Beth) and LeRoy Van Groll; sisters and brother-in-law: Joan Ver Voort, Gary (Kay), Donna, Shirley and Jean Huss; and godchildren: Bruce Wagner, Randy Van Groll, and B.J. Sanderfoot. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his brother Carl; mother and father-in-law: Peter and Hattie Huss; brothers-in-law: Cyril (Marge), Cletus, Roland, Clayton and Peter Huss and George Ver Voort; and nephews Mark Van Beek and Andy Van Groll.
Visitation will be held Thursday March 10, 2011 at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 S. Pine St. Little Chute) beginning at 1:00 p.m. until Mass at 5:00 p.m. The Rev. Msgr. James Vanden Hogen will officiate. Committal St. John Cemetery.
