Obituary

Marcus Frank Roskom, formerly of Little Chute, currently of Wisconsin Veterans Home, King, age 95, died Wednesday, March 23, 2016.
Marcus was born April 26, 1920, in Howard, WI. His mother and father were Anna (Cump) and Peter Roskom. Marcus had eight brothers, Earl, Leo, Arnold, Floyd, Aloyous, Donald, Claude and Levi, and two sisters, Arvilla and Genivieve. They grew up on a farm and later moved to Seymour, WI.

Marcus was drafted into service during WWII at the age of 22, sent to Fort Sheridan, Illinois, and later to Camp Blanding Infantry, Florida. There, his unit headed out on Tennessee Maneuvers and soon called to England. Marcus served at the rank of Sergeant and transferred with his unit to France on D-Day. He fought six months later in the Battle of the Bulge at Normandy where his unit "got the shit kicked out of them." Wounded, with shrapnel remaining in his leg throughout his life, he was flown from Paris to a London hospital where he spent Christmas, as a ship he was to have been on sunk in the English Channel. Recovering after two months, Marcus was sent back to the front lines. For his injuries, Marcus was awarded the Purple Heart.

After the war, Marcus married Dorothy (Vande Corput) June 12, 1948. Together they lived in Kimberly and Little Chute, WI. Marcus is survived by six children, Aloyous (Carolyn), Kathryn (Marlowe) Greening, Kristine, Terrance, Victoria (friend Russ) and Michael (Sun-Cha). He has ten grandchildren, Nicole (Alan) Ziepke, Dr. Tim (TJ) LaFave Jr, Monica (Jamey) Gosz, Jeff Roskom, Doug Roskom, Tara Roskom, Charles Roskom, Ritchie Greening, Calvinn (Melissa) Greening, and Pamella (James) Burk. Marcus also has thirteen great grandchildren. He was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Church and St. John Nepomucene Church.

He was a commercial painter, proficient with woodworking, and enjoyed bowling, gardening, playing poker and sheepshead.

Survivors include his brothers: Claude (Gladys) and Levi (Alice); sister: Arvilla (Ted) Haase; brother-in-law: Joe Vande Corput; and sister-in-law: Shirley Roskom.

In addition to his parents, Marcus was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy in 2013; great grandson Noah; and many brothers, sisters and other relatives.
