December 21, 1916 – February 24, 2017
Louis S. Machalk, a longtime resident of Daggett, MI, currently of Little Chute, WI, age 100, died peacefully at his home on Friday, February 24, 2017 with his wife of 74 years, Mag, and children at his side. He was born in Hermansville, MI on December 21, 1916 to the late George and Katherine (Latin) Machalk. Louis married Magdalene Thoune in Stephenson on June 27, 1942. He served as a Medical Tech in the U.S. Army during World War II. Lou was a longtime Detroit sports fan. He loved playing cards, particularly Pinochle, with his family. Lou usually won, which brought on a wicked grin! Lou and Mag owned and operated Machalk's Clothing Store and he also worked as the Postmaster for several years.
Louis is survived by his wife of 74 years, Magdalene; children: Jim of Little Chute; Jan (Larry) of Little Chute; and Peter of Appleton; grandchildren: Scott (Nancy), Mary (Eric), Brian (Terri), Randy (Annette), Jeri Lynn (Jeff), Jodi (Pete), Dan (Julie), Nikki, Kevin (Michelle), Jill (Daniel) and Jordan; 23 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Alvin (Shirley) Thoune, Clyde Thoune and Doris (Jim) Laurin. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Louis was preceded in death by his siblings: Joe (Evelyn), Ivan (Jeanette), Steve (Ada), Barb, Ann, Marion (Al) and Millie; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Emanuel (Hank), Bob (Ernie), Glen (Theresa), Marge (Don), Doot (Sonny) and Peter Jr. "Chum" (Shirley).
A private family service will be held this summer at the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at King.
Lou's new mission will be in a wonderful place, looking down on us while playing cards and enjoying a good Old Fashion and Roly Poly for dessert.
