Loran M. Hurley entered eternal life on Saturday, April 23 joining his beloved wife Marjorie, son Geoff, and daughter Linda.
Loran was born May 3, 1925 to the late Dan and Judy Hurley. At the age of 11, he changed his name to Loran because he didn't want to be Daniel Jr. After graduating from Menasha High School in 1943 where he served as Sophomore Class President, Loran enlisted in the military and served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946 during WWII. He graduated from Carroll College, Waukesha in 1950.
On September 3, 1949, Loran married the love of his life, Marjorie Foley, and together they raised 5 children. Loran held several accounting positions over his career. He obtained his real estate license which led to him forming Hurley Realty. He served as President on the Wisconsin State Board of Realtors. After 44 years of marriage, Marge died suddenly in 1993 and left a huge void in his life. Loran also experienced recent tragedies with the unexpected deaths of his son Geoff (2013) and daughter Linda (2014).
Loran had a great sense of humor and always had something to say. He will be remembered for his stories; if it wasn't a good story he knew how to embellish an epic tale! Loran loved movies, the Packers, Badgers, golf, and music. He wrote a book at the age of 26 but it was never published. Loran was a world traveler and especially enjoyed spending winters in Phoenix with Geoff.
He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Loran will be deeply missed by his three daughters: Deb (Jeff) DeVries, Julie Hurley, Diane Hurley; six grandchildren: Lindsay and Ashley Radichel, Caitrin (David) Shipley, Shane (Mary Jo) Lantz, Nathan (Erin) Lantz, Ericka Lantz and eight great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his sister LaVon (John) Hansen, son-in-law Tom Lantz, special friends Eileen Vedra, Ellen Ruffing and Ruth Staffeld and numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 28, 2016 at ST. MARGARET MARY PARISH (439 Washington Ave. Neenah) beginning at 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Michael Ingold will officiate. A memorial is being established.
Dad, we will always carry our memories of you in our hearts. We love and miss you. His granddaughters Lindsay and Ashley will cherish their memories spending time with their grandpa playing croquet, shuffleboard, and camping.
