Obituary

Lona Mae Johnson, Eau Claire, age 92, died on Tuesday June 11, 2013, at the St. Paul Home in Kaukauna. She was born in Webb City, MO on August 22, 1920 to the late Ralph and Nettie (Schwartz) Cather. Lona attended Business College in Joplin, MO. She proudly served in the Marines from 1943-44 and was stationed at Camp LeJeune, NC and Camp Pendleton, CA. Lona married Ivan H. Johnson on August 26, 1944 at First Methodist Church in Miami, OK. They moved to Eau Claire, Ivan's hometown, in 1946. Lona retired from Armour & Co. in 1986, where she worked as an Executive Assistant for 33 years. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire and the PBX Club. Lona enjoyed rosemaling, ceramics, baseball, lapidary, fishing and relaxing at the lake.

Lona is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ivan; children: Jean Bohn, Choctaw, OK; and James (Debra) Johnson, Appleton; granddaughters: Deena (Brett) Byers, Jennifer (Chad) Fulton and Amy (Colby) Horn; and great-grandchildren: Chloe Byers, Cade, Avery and Daxton Fulton, Karlye, Colton, Hudson and Gunner Horn. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Lona was preceded in death by her sister Betty Richardson; brothers-in-law Leland Richardson and Joseph Johnson; sisters-in-law Margaret Miller and Theresa Matson; and son-in-law John Pointon.

Visitation will be held beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2013, at First Lutheran Church (1005 Oxford Avenue, Eau Claire) until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Lowell Halvorson will officiate. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery. O'Connell Funeral Home (Little Chute, Wisconsin) assisted the family with arrangements.
