Lois
Kildahl
April 7, 1930 – April 23, 2025
John 5:24 "I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent Me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death to life."
Daughter of Larry & Ada Riley, Lois Kay Kildahl, 95, passed on to eternal life Wednesday, April 23 at Frontida Memory Care, Kimberly, WI. Her death was due to congestive heart & kidney failure. This last year she developed dementia/Alzheimer's and had left her apartment at Heritage to become a resident at Frontida. Her husband, Howard, preceded her in death on May 5, 2015. She is survived by one sister, Ellen Riley, FL., &. four children: Sandra Utecht (Warren), Terri Athey, Kirk Kildahl (Annie), & Kristin Springer (David). She is further survived by 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren
Lois graduated from UW Eau Claire with a degree in PE & Music. She loved teaching & taught PE & music in a variety of schools, K-!2. For many years she was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international group of women educators dedicated to teaching & learning.
Born in Eau Claire, she & her husband, Howard, raised their family there, but in 1978 they decided to move to TX. She continued to teach in TX for several years. Lois was of the Methodist faith & served the Lord in many areas: as choir director for children & adult choirs, & bell choir, and also took part in many Bible studies. She started a social senior's ministry (Silver Threads). A creative person, she helped to change the decorations in her church for each season & event.
With the passing of her husband, Lois decided to move back to WI to be closer to family. She had an apartment at the Heritage in Appleton and made special friends there. She was active in many ways, and served as chorus director, and later led Sunday hymn-sings. She continued to grow in her faith & friendships in more Bible studies.
Her children shared memories of her being a talented seamstress, sewing clothing & Halloween costumes for them each year & even sewing her daughters' wedding dresses! She put that talent to work by joining Dress-a-Girl- Around- the-World, making beautiful dresses for needy children. She always hosted Christmas dinner parties for extended family & loved to create a festive table. While vacationing in Chetek, she organized fish fries for other families there. Her hunts for Easter baskets were fun for all with giant chocolate bunnies for a reward!
There will be two gatherings to celebrate Lois's life. The first will be at the Heritage LDC in Appleton (2600 Heritage Woods Drive) on May 17 at 2:00 pm. The second will be at First United Methodist Church in Edinburg (2707 W. University, Edinburg, TX,78541) at 11:00 am on Oct. 11, 2025. Lois's ashes will be buried in the Veteran's Cemetery, beside her husband's ashes. Any donations will be given to her Edinburg church or Dress- a- Girl- Around- the- World.
The family would like to thank the staffs at Heritage, Frontida, & Preceptor Hospice for their loving, respectful, & excellent care of our mom. They would also like to thank the staff at O'Connell Funeral Home for their assistance.
