Kieran Hickey, Capuchin friar and priest, died on October 3, 2016 at the age of 95. Kieran was born to Nora and George Hickey on 13 March 1921 in Nortonville ND. He was invested with the Capuchin habit in 1941, professed his perpetual vows in 1945, and was ordained to the priesthood in 1949.
He began parish ministry in Brooklyn NY in 1950. A year later, he was transferred as a missioner to Guam where he served for the next 19 years. On returning to the States, Kieran served in a number of pastoral ministries, including chaplaincy, teaching (St. Lawrence Seminary College Program), training of candidates for the order, and the ministry of prayer. From 1982-1996, he directed retreats at Monte Alverno Retreat Center in Appleton WI. He retired from active ministry in 1998.
Kieran Hickey is survived by his many Capuchin brothers with whom he lived, prayed and ministered during the past 75 years.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 7, 2016 at ST. JOSEPH PARISH (404 W. Lawrence St. Appleton) beginning at 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 10:30 a.m. Committal St. Joseph Cemetery.
