Obituary

Kenneth (Ken) J. Vosters, age 71, passed away of an unexpected heart attack at his home on December 4, 2021.  Ken was born on October 11, 1950 in Appleton, the son of Bernard (Butch) and Doris (Hammen) Vosters.  Ken was the third of nine Vosters children.  He attended St. John's grade school and graduated from St. John's High School class of 1969.  He slaved away for 40+ years at the Combined Locks Mill, where he eventually earned his retirement.

Ken had a passion for the outdoors, hunting, apple picking, campfires, fishing and considered himself quite the pro.  His self-taught skill for mounting deer antlers earned him quite a reputation among the deer hunters keeping him very busy outside of the hunting season. Fishing was an obsession for Ken.  He would commonly say, "I catch 'em, clean'em, fry 'em, and eat 'em up." In retirement he spent much of his time at his "home away from home" in Phelps WI hosting fish fries, and countless fishing excursions.  He valued all of the friends/family who came to hang out by his campfires and have a few laughs with a good old-fashioned in hand.

He also invented quite a few homemade contraptions to enrich his outdoor activities…they may never make it to market (i.e. old man worm getter, chippy traps, rabbit traps etc.), but he actually used them and gifted many to family and friends.

Ken played a mean game of Cribbage and Chess and considered himself pretty darn good but tried to be humble about it.  He spent countless hours teaching the grandkids the art of playing Cribbage and Chess and would always make himself available anytime the kids would stop by to get a game in with Grandpa Ken.

Faith was at the core of Ken's life.  He was a lifelong member of St. John's Church, in Little Chute.

Ken is survived by his wife of 31 years, Linda; children: Greg Vosters, Jay (Marie-Claude) Vosters, and Joe (Alyssa) Vosters; step-children: Jill (Jeff) Ison, Bonnie (Brett) Schwiesow, and Betsy (Mark) Zemlock; grandchildren: Kennedy and Caleb Vosters, Elliot and Sylvia Vosters, Scott (Kayla) Ison, Logan (Chelsea) Ison, Carlie, Brody, and Riley Huss, Eli and Kendall Zemlock; great-grandchildren: Will, Madelyn and Avery Ison.  He is also survived by his siblings:  Nancy (Bob) Nemecek, Karen (Bernie) Menting, Bob (Vicki) Vosters, Carol McMillan (Tom), Mary Simpson, LeeAnn (Chuck) Janssen, and Gary (Amy) Vosters; and in-laws: Karen (Tom) Schmidt, Bob (Janice) Grissman, Wendy Schmidt, Rick Grissman, and Tim Grissman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard (Butch) and Doris (Hammen) Vosters; infant sister Nell; father- and mother-in-law, Robert N. and Violet (Lenhart) Grissman.
