Obituary

Kenneth A. Schnese, Jr., Darboy, age 82, died at his home on Thursday, October 3, 2024, with his family at his side.  He was born in Appleton on April 23, 1942 to the late Kenneth and Alvina (Bretthauer) Schnese, Sr.  Ken married Elizabeth "Betty" Verhagen on October 23, 1970 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church.  She preceded him in death on August 16, 2014.  Ken was an avid Cubs and Packer fan and attended the first two Super Bowls.  He retired from Kimberly Clark/Repap after 37 ½ years of service.  Ken enjoyed playing cards with the neighbors on Friday nights and loved working on puzzles.  Together, he and Betty were members of St. Paul Parish in Combined Locks, where they helped organize Dutch Treat.  He also followed the Kimberly football and basketball teams and cut wood for Ken's Kute Krafters that Betty was involved in.

Ken is survived by his children:  Tina Van Rossum, Freedom; and Scott (Amy) Schnese, Kimberly; grandchildren:  Emma (Brock) Herzog, Kendra Schnese, Josie Van Rossum, and Ryley Van Rossum; brother, Curt (Bonnie) Schnese; brothers-in-law:  Al Paltzer and Joe Janssen; and special friend, Nancy Seidl.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, Betty, Ken was preceded in death by his son-in-law, John Van Rossum; sisters:  Sandy Paltzer, Sue (Gary) Wankey, Michelle (Kevin) Dolan, and Jane (infant); and brothers and sisters-in-law:  Ann (Ken) Vanden Heuvel, Tom (Jan) Verhagen, Jane Janssen, and Doris Schnese.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 10, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:15 p.m. at O'CONNELL FUNERAL HOME (1776 E. Main Street, Little Chute).  His Funeral will follow at 5:30 p.m. with Deacon Dan Koszalinski officiating.  Committal St. Paul Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Tess and Ben (R.N.'s) and Ida and Carolyne (C.N.A.'s) and the staff at ThedaCare at Home Hospice for the loving care Ken received.
