Obituary

Kay Heegeman, 73, of Appleton, passed away in the early morning hours of April 26, 2015. She was born in Appleton to Harold and Mildred Welbes on July 4th, 1941, they precede her in death.

Kay had bravely battled Melanoma for 8 years. This last round, which was discovered in early November 2014, ultimately took her from this earth. Although she is not with us, the incredible strength she showed during this time will stay in our hearts forever. As cancer robbed and debilitated her body, the kind of strength Kay showed us all was not of a physical nature but rather, spiritual. The strength to show gratitude to others. The ability to care for her care-givers. The desire to forgive others, instead of choosing to be bitter. Most of all, to show that the power of love, compassion and acceptance wins every time. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.

Kay was a lifelong resident of the Fox Valley. She is survived by her siblings, Lynn (Robert) Schwartz of Cumming GA, Steve (Pat) Welbes of Larsen, John (Diane) Welbes of Winneconne and Chris (Steve) Matthias of Sherwood.

She is also survived by her children, Kerri Heegeman (Partner, Lindsey) of Appleton, Julie (Greg) Sampson of Little Chute & James Heegeman of Lakewood, WA.

Her true treasures in this life were her grandchildren, Tate Sampson, Johanna Heegeman, Jensen Lammeman, Caden Sampson, Wes Sampson and Luke Sampson.

She is also survived by her former husband, Dennis Heegeman of Neenah, her aunt, Jane Ruth and many precious nieces, nephews & their children. Kay could have not made it through this journey without several amazing, lifelong friends, as well.

Kay was employed at JC Penney for over 40 years and always enjoyed the people she worked with.

Visitation will be held Tuesday April 28, 2015 at O'CONNELL FUNERAL HOME (1776 E. Main St. Little Chute) from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 Pine St. Little Chute) at 5:00 p.m. The Rev. Ronald Belitz will officiate. Committal Holy Angels Cemetery, Darboy.

The family would like to thank the staff from ThedaCare Home Health, particularly Bonnie and Claudia for their compassionate gift of service these past weeks. Special thanks also to Dr.Krueger and Dr. Swanson.

"Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstance, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5: 16-17
