Kathryn McKay passed away peacefully on May 19, 2017 after a brief illness at the age of 97years and 361 days. She had been a resident of American Grand Assisted Living Suites since October, 2016. She was born May 23, 1919 to Charles and Ethel Parnell in Orion, Illinois, where she resided until 1931. At that time they moved to Galesburg, Illinois, where she attended school. She married Richard Glen McKay in 1937. He preceded her in death on December 12, 1970.
After the death of her husband she moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin to be near her son Patrick and his family. While there she worked for 17 years in the housing department of the Great Lakes Naval Training Station. After retiring, she moved to Kaukauna, Wisconsin to be closer to her son Richard and his family. There she became a member of Peace United Methodist Church. She was a welcome volunteer at many locations around town especially working with children. Although she was active in these activities, her family was always her main priority.
She is survived by two sons: Patrick (Barbara), Sanford, NC and Richard Terry (Gail), Kaukauna. She is also survived by a large family of eleven grandchildren, fourteen great- grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at PEACE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH (2300 Wisconsin Ave. Kaukauna) from 4:00 p.m. until the time of Funeral at 6:30 p.m. The Rev. Lucretia Fehrmann will officiate. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg, IL next to her beloved husband Richard (Red) McKay on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Covenant House, Children's International, or Shriners Children's Hospital.
The family would like to thank the staff of American Grand Assisted Living for their excellent medical care and especially loving care and concern for Kathryn and her family.
