John
Sramkoski
March 15, 1957 – October 1, 2019
John Joseph Sramkoski, Appleton, age 62, died Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Appleton. He was born in Saginaw, Michigan on March 15, 1957 to the late Thaddeus and Eleanor (Orosz) Sramkoski.
John had an idyllic upbringing on a Michigan farm, where he developed a love of the outdoors. He was an avid farmer and fisherman, and became an Eagle Scout in his youth. Also an artist, John played the guitar, trombone, and harmonica. He attended the University of Idaho where he obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Architecture. He was a talented artisan and master of his craft. One of his major projects (accomplished with his dedicated crew) – was the elaborate and complicated roof of a Victorian mansion in Waupaca, WI, which was featured in the magazine "Victorian Homes" and on the cover of a brochure for one of the largest roofing manufacturers in the United States. John had many charity projects that he and his crews performed during times of natural disasters – in New Orleans and Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina, among others. He succumbed to his struggle with alcoholism, which he battled nearly his entire adult life. John will be remembered for his sharp wit, keen sense of humor, and generous heart, and he will be missed by his loved ones.
John is survived by his siblings, Janet (Michael) Jahncke and Deanna (John) Gilmour. He is also survived by close friends, who stood with him during his struggles: nephews Ian Gilmour and Nathan Jahncke, Darlene, Mike Rotella, Ed Campbell, Steve Whitston, Mike and Celine Van Hoof, Kevin Dieck, Dave Miller, Joe Orosz, Paula Fahey and family, Sean Collins, James Widder, and Matt Kempf.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Ann Sramkoski.
In accordance with his wishes, no service will be held. A memorial is being established to benefit Mothers Against Drunk Driving (M.A.D.D.).
