Joan Elizabeth
Kolosso
November 6, 1933 – June 4, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joan E. Kolosso, age 91, who departed this life on June 4, 2025 in Appleton, Wisconsin. Joan was born in Combined Locks on November 6, 1933 to the late Peter and Petronella (Ebben) Berghuis. On November 27, 1952, Joan married Donald Kolosso at St. Mary's Parish in Appleton. He preceded her in death on June 12, 2013, after 60 years of marriage.
Joan is survived by her loving children: Debra Verstegen, Sharon (Robert) Charlier, Randall (Julie) Kolosso, Connie Fischer, and Larry (Michelle) Kolosso; daughter-in-law: Betsy Kolosso; grandchildren: Victoria, Kathleen, Joanna, Nicole, Dean, Brian, Eric, Ericka, Jeremiah, Michael, Matthew, Sarah, Krista, Jacquelyn, Nikalaas, and Haleigh; sister, Carol (Peter) Kessler; and sister-in-law, Darlene Berghuis. She is further survived by 21 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and the friends at Ridgeview that became a part of her family. Her life was a testament of selflessness, hard work, and love as she utilized her God-given talent of giving with a full heart and open hands. Joan is remembered for her unwavering faith, gentle spirit, and loyalty.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joan was welcomed into heaven by her sons: Steven and Joseph; son-in-law, Guy Verstegen; grandson, Jeremy Long; and eight siblings.
Joan pursued every goal with inspiring determination and grace. In her early life, she found great fulfillment in her work as manager at Sentry deli and Red Owl. Apart from her career, she was an accomplished classic bowler with numerous 600+ series, 1-700 series, additionally, she was a talented golfer, earning a hole in one at Winnegamie Golf Course. Upon Joan's retirement, she enjoyed driving cars for Russ Darrow and spent many hours volunteering which she received The President's Volunteer Service Award. At the base of all her accomplishments throughout her life was and always has been her family and faith. She took immense pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and all their accomplishments filled her heart with endless joy, which she was always eager to share with those around her.
A celebration of Joan's life will be held on June 7, 2025, at ST. THOMAS MORE PARISH (1810 N. McDonald Street, Appleton, Wisconsin), with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Her Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the nursing staff at St. Elizabeth's Hospital for their kindness, gentleness and compassion throughout the care they provided during her last days.
