Joan "Jo" M. Schmitz, 65, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 1, 2014.
Born on February 11, 1949, in Appleton, Wisconsin, Jo founded and owned the Gallery On Hair & Day Spa in Appleton, where she warmed the lives of countless friends, clients and colleagues over several decades. Jo's creative, entrepreneurial and adventurous spirit also manifested itself in her love for nature photography and travel to destinations including Ecuador and Africa. Her family will fondly remember their vacations together, along with her zest for stylish cars, art and the unconventional.
Jo is survived by one sister, Jean (Dick) Promer; three nephews Jeff (Tricia), Rick and Cory Promer; a great-niece Jennifer Promer; and great-nephews Tyler and Hunter Promer.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Catherine (Geigel) Schmitz.
Plans for a private gathering are pending. Per Jo's request, there will be no funeral service held.
The family extends its gratitude to Jo's Gallery On Hair Family and the "Queens" for their love and support, as well as the Fox Valley Hematology Staff and the hospice teams at ThedaCare and Cherry Meadows
