Obituary

James J. Niesen, Kaukauna, age 79, died at his home, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.  He was born in Kaukauna on September 18, 1946, to the late Herbert and Adeline (Eiting) Niesen.  Jim married Diane Van Dyn Hoven in Appleton on September 5, 1975.  They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year.

Jim worked as an electrical engineer.  He spent 25 years with IBM, 10 with Town & Electric, and retired from Weyer Equipment as their parts manager.

In his earlier years, he helped coach his son's baseball team.  Jim also worked with the Scouts both as a leader and badge counselor, helping the boys reach their Eagle Scout.

He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing at the cottage up north, and his 30 years of fishing with his Canada Group.  He was a 30+ year volunteer with both the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Ducks Unlimited.

Jim's greatest pride and joy was his family.  As much as he loved hunting, his greatest years of hunting were his last 3 years, as he was able to share it with his son, Cory, and his granddaughter, Lilah.  He was a proud grandpa and enjoyed keeping track of his grandchildren's school activities and always looked forward to watching videos of his granddaughter, Delaney, marching with the Pulaski High School Marching Band in parades and other events.

Jim was known for his smile and heart of gold.  He was always willing to help anyone that needed it.

Jim is survived by his wife, Diane; son, Cory (Emily) Niesen of Sobieski; grandchildren:  Delaney, Lilah, and Nathan; sisters: Virginia Holbrook, Eileen (Pete) Gossen, and Jodi (Ken) Schott; stepsister, Judy (Fred) Sommerfeld; sister-in-law, Nancy (Robert) Mankovecky; and best friend and faithful companion, Whitney.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his stepmother, Fran Niesen; Diane's parents, John and Lillian Van Dyn Hoven; and sisters:  Kathy Neuman, Carol Mandel, Mary Jo Gellerman, and Barbara Braun.

In accordance with Jim's wishes, no service will be held.

Diane and family would like to thank all of the family and friends for their support in making Jim's transition a peaceful one.
