Obituary

James J. Daverveld, Appleton, age 83, died Friday, September 21, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Hospital unexpectedly from a stroke. He was born in Kaukauna on October 4, 1934 to the late Henry and Gertrude (VanDyke) Daverveld. He studied with the Benedictine monks of Saint John's Abbey, MN. Jim was an Army veteran. He married Geraldine Hietpas on May 5, 1962 at St. Edward Parish in Mackville. Jim worked at Thilmanys prior to operating the Standard Oil Service Station in Little Chute. He then worked at American Can until his retirement in 1996.

Jim is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gerry; sons: Marc of Appleton and Joe of Oshkosh; grandchildren: Brooke and Zac; and step-grandson, Mike. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his siblings: Nellie Vanevenhoven, Betty Verhasselt, and infant brother Henry Jr.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 28, 2018 at ST. JOSEPH PARISH (400 W. Lawrence St. Appleton) beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. James Leary, O.F.M. Cap. will officiate. Military honors, conducted by the Kaukauna V.F.W. Post 3319 and American Legion Post 41, will immediately follow. Burial Holy Cross Cemetery. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, PLEASE PERFORM A RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS IN HONOR OF HIM.

"Big Jim" was very proud to accomplish his goal of lifelong sobriety. Jim was a very warm and loving person liked by all; who will be dearly missed by his family and especially the love of his life Gerry.
