Obituary

Irene J. Peeters, Little Chute, age 90 passed away peacefully Friday August 13, 2010 at St. Paul Home with her husband Don and family at her side. She was born in Little Chute on July 30, 1920 to the late Joseph and Anna (Van Gompel) Verstegen. Irene married Dominic Peeters on July 12, 1941 at St. John Nepomucene during a double wedding ceremony with her twin sister Ida and her husband Jim. She was a lifelong member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church where she was also a member of the St. Elizabeth Society. Irene was also a member of the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258 Auxiliary, Ladies' Bridge Club, and the Fox Valley Golf Club. She enjoyed painting, golfing, sewing, knitting and baking. Many will remember her for her baking skills, including her banana cream pie and homemade chocolate éclairs. Irene had a sweet tooth, with a particular fondness for chocolate.

Irene is survived by her husband of 69 years, Dominic; children: Dianne (Donald) Hermsen, Kaukauna; Linda (Dr. Adrian) Ebben, Kaukauna; Christine (Ronald "Mart") Lamers, Little Chute; Stephen (Susan) Peeters, De Pere; and Jeffrey (Denise) Peeters, Little Chute; 16 grandchildren: Deborah (Alan) Lamers, Michael (Pam) Hermsen, Karen (Greg) Kilgas, Gregory (Julie) Hermsen, Stacy (Troy) Weyenberg, Abby (Phil) Vanden Heuvel, Mary (Reg) Wydeven, Kathryn (Steve) Schepp, Susan (Jim) Hammen, Beth (Chad) De Leeuw, Anne (Brian) Rosin and Sara, Dominic, Derek, Kurt and Seth Peeters; great grandchildren: Brad (Justine), Abby, Rachel, Zachary, Jenny (Todd), Jake, Luke, Matthew, Paul, Dianne, Adam, Kevin, Lauren, Amanda, Alyssa, Noah, Ethan, Kaleb, Abram, Halle, Titus, Gabe, Michael, Ebben Lynn, Matthew, Mike, Megan, Matt, David, Brooke, Tracy, Calla, Sam and Emily; sisters: Bernice Vander Velden and (Irene's twin) Ida (Jim) Peeters; and sister and brother-in-law: Loretta Hoelzel and Mark Peeters. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Donna Mae; great grandchildren, Jonathon, Amy Jo and Silas; brothers and sisters: Lester (Peg), Clarence, Robert (Lil), Gerald (Margaret), Ernest (Ann), Joseph (Charlotte), Carl (Marie), and infant Aloysius Verstegen, Regina and Clarence Bouressa, and Joanne Hawley; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Joseph Vander Velden, Carl "Kelly" (Irene) Peeters, Cele (Earl) Schuler, Eugene (Bernice) Peeters, Ann (Ernest) Verstegen, Mary Ellen, Monica and Rita Peeters.

Visitation will be held Tuesday August 17, 2010 beginning at 3:00 p.m. until time of Mass at 5:00 p.m. at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 S. Pine St. Little Chute). The Rev. Msgr. James Vanden Hogen will officiate. Committal St. John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established to benefit St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church and/or Fr. Bert Ebben's Mission.

The Peeters' would like to thank Msgr. Jim Vanden Hogen, Dr. Jack Meyer and his staff, as well as those at St. Paul Villa and Home, for the compassionate care given to Irene and her family.
