Obituary

God needed someone with a positive attitude. He called His daughter, Harriet, home Saturday, July 1, 2018, at the age of 86. She was surrounded by all the love of her family at the time of her passing.

Harriet Bootz was born in Appleton, WI on April 1, 1932 to the late Peter and Marie Bootz. She attended St. Therese grade school and graduated from Appleton West High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Eugene Brock, on June 9, 1951 in Port Smith, Virginia. Harriet was the most devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her kindness and generous demeanor were like no other. Everyone who entered her home was welcomed with some kind of food or cookies or bars, and a line of questioning that showed how much she loved her family and friends.

Harriet enjoyed cooking, gardening, camping and shopping with her daughters. She volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul for 20 years.

Harriet is survived by four children: Ann (Mike) Gevaert, Green Bay, WI; Mary (Gary) Heigl, Palatine, IL; John (Michele) Brock, Suamico, WI; and Jane (Tom) Van Grinsven, Kimberly, WI; 10 grandchildren: Angie (Mike) Rusk, Molly (Adam) Mallien, Marcus (fiancée Liz Pedretti) Gevaert, Natisha Hiedeman, Peter (Annie) Heigl, Katie (Brian) Biesterveld, Matthew (fiancée Erica Ropson) Brock, Mitchel Brock, Jeffery Van Grinsven and Jacob Van Grinsven; 7 great grandchildren: Marisa and Serena Rusk, Hunter Mallien, Brady, Lucy and Jordy Biesterveld and Quinn Heigl. She is also survived by her brother, Tom (Maggie) Bootz; sister-in-law, Rosie Knoll; brother-in-law, Marty Brock; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Harriet was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Brock; mother and father-in-law, John and Lybia Brock; sister, Dorothy (Don) Hietpas; 4 sisters-in-law: Edna (Lloyd) Jones, Irene Shaney, Margaret (Archie) Probst and Rita Brock.

The funeral liturgy will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at ST. THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH (1810 N. McDonald St., Appleton, WI) with Father Jim Lucas officiating. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. with mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. Committal at St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. To sign the guest book, please visit oconnellfh.com.

We would like to express our gratitude to all the devoted caregivers at Century Oaks Assisted Living; the Heartland Hospice staff: Julie, Erin, Karon and Mike; and a very special caregiver and friend, Sarah Caloway, whose kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.

"The fact is that dying with as much grace as we can muster is the last lesson we can teach our children; and it is a huge lesson." …Mom, we love you forever!
