Obituary

Harold B. Vandenberg, Little Chute, age 92, died Thursday April 23, 2015 at the St. Paul Home. He was born in Stanley, WI on September 25, 1922 to the late Arthur and Catherine (Hieting) Vandenberg. Harry served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a deep sea diver for four years in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258 Little Chute, the Urban Klister American Legion Post 436 Wrightstown and the Kaukauna V.F.W. Post 3319. Harry and his brother-in-law, Cunny Dercks, went on the first Old Glory Honor Flight out of Appleton.

On November 12, 1946, he married Marie Dercks at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on March 22, 2006 after 59 years of marriage. Together, they enjoyed 18 winters in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Harry retired from Thilmany Pulp and Paper where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club.

Harold is survived by his children: Paul (Pam), Little Chute; Judy (Bill) Verhagen, Little Chute; Jo (Cliff) Verstegen, Kaukauna; and Mary (Steve) Mischler, Kaukauna; grandchildren: Danielle Vandenberg, Vicky (John) Dougherty, Sally (Jim) Salber, Wendy (friend Sean Wiese) Vandenberg, Craig (Tammy) and Judd (Heather) Verhagen, Cathy (Mark) Beck, Jill (Bob) Donovan, Jerry (Jen) Verstegen, Scott (Rachel) and David (Amy) Verstegen, Ryan (Jess) and Jeff Mischler; great grandchildren: Granthem, Taitum, Josh, Hannah, Griffin, Alyse, Mitch, Ryan, Jack, Kara, Tyler, Brett, Joshua, Clayton, Collin, Micah, Naomi and Natali and his 19th due in June; brother: Roy (Marianne) Vandenberg; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Betty (Jim "Quack") Peerenboom, Mark "Gus" (Bernice) Dercks and Rita Dercks. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife Marie, Harry was preceded in death by Marie's parents, Pete and Ann Dercks; siblings: Irene (Alois) School, Elmer (Ruth), Johnny (Mitt) and Ray (Marge) Vandenberg; brothers and sisters-in-law: Virginia and Marcy Vandenberg, Clarence "Cunny" (Betty), George and Ves Dercks; and nephew Bob Vandenberg.

Visitation will be held Monday April 27, 2015 at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 Pine St. Little Chute) beginning at 3:00 p.m. until time of Mass at 5:00 p.m. The Rev. Msgr. James Vanden Hogen will officiate. Military rites conducted by the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258 will immediately follow. Committal St. John Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Harry's name to the Northeast Wisconsin Old Glory Honor Flight.
