Glen A. Van Camp, Freedom, age 81 died Wednesday June 16, 2010 at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He was born in Freedom on August 21, 1928 to the late Frank and Magdalene (Biese) Van Camp. Glen married Therese Vanden Heuvel on October 25, 1950 at St. Therese Catholic Church. He was a member of the Freedom Lions and the Carpenters Local 955. Glen also served as a trustee at St. Nicholas Parish. Together, Glen and Therese enjoyed traveling. They drove out west many times. Even out to Alaska and back. They enjoyed taking trips out to South Dakota to visit Bro. Will Siehr at the Pine Ridge Mission School. They also traveled to Florida to visit relatives and friends. Dad thanked God after coasting into gas stations and each safe return home.
Glen is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Therese; children: Gary (Julie), Freedom; Carla Van Camp, Townsend; Linda (Walt) Strelow, Appleton; Jim (Ann Marie), Longbeach, CA; Darlene (Paul) Hermes, Kimberly; Randy (Lori), Appleton; and Brian (Patsy), Sherwood; 20 grandchildren: Alissa (Chris) Effa, Greg and Rachel Strelow, Daniel, Nicholas, Kaitlyn and Benjamin Hermes, Ryan (Sarah), Cory (Casey), Steve (Jodie), Tim (Darla), Sarah, Kevin, Emily, Claire, Conor, Hugh, Kendra, Karli and Morganne Van Camp; great grandchildren: Reegan, Drew, Breleigh, Sawyer, Maria, Ava, Aubrey, Brady Van Camp and Mason Effa; and siblings: Mary Vande Hey, Eugene (Laurie) and Floyd (Joanne) Van Camp. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Glen was preceded in death by his son, Richard Van Camp; great granddaughter Trinity Van Camp; brothers: Marcel, Alois (Dolores) and Gerald (Donna) Van Camp; and brother-in-law: Amos Vande Hey.
Visitation will be held Saturday
June 19, 2010 beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 12 Noon at ST. NICHOLAS PARISH (W2037 County Road S, Freedom). Committal at St. Nicholas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
