Obituary

Germaine (Spice) Smet, of Sherwood, age 79, passed away on Sunday March 6, 2011 at her home, with her family by her side. She was born May 23, 1931, the daughter of the late Ira and Sarah Spice. Germaine married Francis Smet on April 25, 1950. She enjoyed spending her time at the cottage in Berry Lake and will be fondly remembered for her love of cooking (especially her cheesecake), her love for her family, and her dedication to the Green Bay Packers.

Her survivors include her husband Francis; their three daughters: Judy (Al) Rhinerson, Oxford; Kathy (David) Amond, Menasha; and Donna (Vince) Hopkins, Appleton; their four sons: Pete (Mary) Smet, Kaukauna; Jim (Deb) Smet, Kaukauna; Bill Smet, Appleton; and Dan (Corrina) Smet, Kaukauna; fifteen grandchildren: Jennifer (Danny) Bruchs, Tim (Trish) Smet, Becki Smet, Heather (fiance Mike Biese) Smet, Nicole (Dan) Briski, Pete (Jaime) Halbach, Greg Smet, Kristi Geiger, Amanda (special friend Kyle Casey) Kobussen, Amy Kobussen, Amanda (John) Spanheimer, Tim Hopkins, Ashley (special friend Steve Ropski) Smet, Adam (special friend Danielle Ziegelbauer) Smet and Alicia (fiance Bryan Fleischman) Bunnell;10 great grandchildren: Cody, Logan, Autumn, Addy, Dawson, Nicholas, Tyler, Maddie, Livie and Adalyn; brother Ken (Miyako) Spice; sister Lillian Lindemeyer; and in-law's Joseph (Ceil) Smet, Catherine Schlimm, Clarence (Margaret) Smet, Margaret (Norman) Bowers and Ray VanHandel.

In addition to her parents, Germaine was preceded in death by her granddaughters Jessica and Sarah Smet; brothers: Les (Eileen), Cal (Deloris), Percy (Erna) and Kirby; sisters: Irene (Louie), Esther (Martin) and Gladys (George); in-law's Bill Lindemeyer, Clement Schlimm, Ed Smet, Marion Smet, Hortence VanHandel and Josephine (John) Wallace.

Visitation will be held Friday March 11, 2011 at ST. JOHN – SACRED HEART PARISH (Sacred Heart Church N369 Military Rd. Sherwood) from 9:00 a.m. until Mass at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Philip Dinh-Van-Thiep will officiate. Committal will take place in the church cemetery.
