Gerald J.
Van Schyndel
October 28, 1942 – March 23, 2025
Gerald (Jerry) Joseph Van Schyndel, born October 28, 1942, was called to heaven on Sunday, March 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born to the late Joseph Van Schyndel and Elaine (Kieffer) Van Schyndel. He attended Kaukauna High School and that's where his roots remained for the duration of his life. He married Janice Lee Vanden Berg on May 14, 1966. Together they built a loving family including two children: Todd (Amy) Van Schyndel and Geri (Ken) Wiegert. Four grandchildren: Taylor Wiegert, Nathan (Betsy) Van Schyndel, Jake (Melissa) Van Schyndel and Alexandria (Charles) Larson. Along with five great-children: Isaac Larson, Lena Van Schyndel, Victoria Larson, Marcella Van Schyndel and Oaklyn Van Schyndel.
Jerry was a four year Navy E3 Veteran, serving on the USS Boxer and USS Constellation. He was very proud of his time in the service and maintained contact with his shipmates, especially with Dexter Morris. He was a member of the Kaukauna V.F.W. Post 3319 and went on the Old Glory Honor flight in November 2023. Jerry had many jobs (sometimes 2 or 3 at a time), including being a long time employee of Badger Northland and ending his career at Lunda Construction, with retirement in 2005.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, typically accompanying his children and eventually his grandchildren. All he did in life was focused around his family and ensuring they had everything they needed. His ultimate success was as a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Survivors include his wife Janice, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his six siblings and brothers/sisters-in-law, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Elaine Van Schyndel; his father-in-law Edward Vanden Berg; mother-in-law, Elizabeth (Delfosse) Vanden Berg; sister-in-law, Diane (Vanden Berg) Verkuilen; and brother-in-law, Richard Skalmusky.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at O'CONNELL FUNERAL HOME (1776 E. Main Street, Little Chute) from 3:00 until 5:15 p.m. His Funeral will be held at 5:30 p.m. with the Rev. Luke Ferris officiating. Military Honors, conducted by the Kaukauna V.F.W. Post 3319 and American Legion Post 41, will immediately follow.
The family would like to thank ThedaCare at Home Hospice and their staff, especially Dr. Boese, Angie, Tina, Nicole and Erika for their care and assistance during Jerry's final journey with us. Special thanks to O'Connell Funeral Home for all their assistance.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Kaukauna V.F.W. Post 3319.
