George J. Wydeven, Appleton, age 97 died Monday May 23, 2011 at Parkside Care Center. He was born in Little Chute on January 21, 1914 to the late Adrian and Harriet (Verhagen) Wydeven. George married Agnes Van Hammond on June 27, 1934. She preceded him in death November 26, 1997. He raised Beagles and was a charter member of the Fox River Beagle Club. He was also a member of the Kaukauna Pigeon Club. George loved country music, played the harmonica and liked to sing. He was always joking and good-natured.
George is survived by his children: Jack (Carol), Little Chute; Judy (Bill) Asuma, Rhinelander; and Ken, Appleton; grandchildren: Mike (Nancy), Jim (Lisa) and Mark Wydeven, Mary (Randy) Kramer, Greg (Jami) DeValk, Sara (Larry) Bonser and Kristin Willing; great grandchildren: Kate Kramer, Khristy Kielman, Kevin and Kaitlyn DeValk, Amanda Wydeven, Michael, Kevin and Elise De Bruin, Tyler Willing, Laura Kate and Sam Bonser; and sisters-in-law: Mildred Vander Heiden and Lorraine Daniels. He is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his wife Agnes and parents, George was preceded in death by his children: David, Dorothy Mae and Carol Ann; great grandson Jack Kramer; siblings: Harriet (Ted) Van Thiel, Kate (Frank) Hermsen, Ann (Al) Jansen, Nell (Porky) Parker, Rose (Ray) Schommer, Marie (Pete) Bootz, Ceil Vander Wyst, Joe (Ann) and Rich (Grace) Wydeven; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Mart (Alice) and Joe (Gladys) Van Hammond, Fran (Joe) Gerrits, Lloyd Vander Heiden, Verna (Tony) Gloudemans, Earl De Bruin, Milt Daniels and Nick Huss.
Visitation will be held Saturday May 28, 2011 at ST. THOMAS MORE PARISH (1810 N. McDonald St. Appleton) from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. James Lucas will officiate with the Rev. Msgr. Mark Schommer (George's nephew) and Rev. Gerald Falk concelebrating. Committal St. John Cemetery, Little Chute.
The family wishes to thank those who faithfully visited Dad through the years, including Janice Siebers, Alois Vanden Boogard, Jack Miron, Pete Van Dera, Joan Moericke (niece), Oscar Calanca and Karen Kronser (niece). Also, special thanks to his wonderful caregiver and niece, Bonnie Feldkamp.
George was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather. We were fortunate to have him in our lives for 97 years and he will be dearly missed.
