Genevieve O. Schmalz, Darboy, age 85, died Thursday, October 17, 2013 at her home. She was born in Little Chute on January 3, 1928 to the late Anton and Marie (Janssen) Van Gompel. Genevieve married Peter Schmalz on September 10, 1949 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church. She enjoyed knitting and playing Sheepshead and was an avid Packer fan. Genevieve treasured time spent with her family.
Genevieve is survived by her loving husband, Peter; children: Leon (Vickie), Tallahassee, FL; Rebecca (Daniel) Fernandez, Olathe, KS; Steven (Sheryl), Neenah; Cynthia (Barry) Phillips, Neenah; and Ramona (John) Dahlke, Tallahassee, FL; grandchildren: Andrea Webb, Shane and Alex Fernandez, Josh (Jenny) Schmalz, Jennifer (Ben) Busch, Kimberly Tessen, Amber Schmalz (fiancé Shaun Casper), Ariel (Justin) Catlin, Lydia and Johnathan Schmalz, Eric and Kristine Phillips, Nicole (Luke) Scoles, Cassandra (Dave) Hale, Danielle (Matt) Pena, Adam (Pilar) and John M. Dahlke; 21 great grandchildren with another on the way; siblings: Marcellus (Mary) Van Gompel, Lynda (Norbert) Weyers; and sisters-in-law: Audrey and Catherine Van Gompel, Bonita Bodway, Helen Krasniewski, Marie Schmalz, and Liz Wiesner. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to her parents, Genevieve was preceded in death by her siblings: Millie (Robert) Walker, Josephine (Herb) Lom, Regina, Richard, James, and Henry Van Gompel; and brothers and sister-in-law: Kenneth (Betty) Schmalz, Gerald, and Robert Schmalz, Mal Bodway, and Frank Krasniewski.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at ST. PAUL PARISH (410 Wallace Street, Combined Locks) beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Andrew Kysely will officiate. Committal Holy Angels Cemetery.
